I don't blame em. Learning to land was one of the hardest things to learn for me, in both piston, and jet. They both land differently, so I had to learn landings twice.

On the other hand, 100 hours of IOE is too much to learn how to land. It took me 50ish hours of slamming the plane and breaking passenger's necks to finally get it down and finish IOE. Even then, they weren't so good and took some line flying to get the sight picture down.

Finish IOE, get 500 hours, and THEN think about the big boy jet LCC's.

Failures weren't so common because in the past, you'd have 1000 regional jet hour guys, or RJ captains come on with great jet experience. When you hire a 1500 piston cfi, it's a whole other story. Sure some can succeed, but failure is still on the horizon and it's not a walk in the park.
What absolute nonsense. The great majority of pilots that come to us having not flown jets before do just fine. I agree it's not a walk in the park, but the same can be said of flying an airliner of any size. Tell me, what's the significant difference between flying an RJ and a 737/A320? Pretty much nothing. If anything the RJs can be more challenging to pass training in. Frontier training is head and shoulders above the likes of Republic or Mesa.

One of the big differences is we don’t do 3-4 legs a day. 3-4 cycles of takeoffs and landings a day. 1-2 legs a day with a lot of looking out the window. That’s where that repetition at the regionals really pays off.

This is 100% true. The regionals *are* a fantastic stepping stone and good introduction to jet flying/121 world. You'll build up your pilot skills, and quickly, so your next trip to a LCC/Acmi is a piece of cake.

I understand your cases. Very true in many cases.

I can assure you the case I stated WAS an instructor problem. I was one of the two that got a D. I put forth an inordinate amount of effort, trying to learn the material on my own. Much more than other STEM courses I got As in from okay to good instructors. The chair of the department (known as a tough but fair Professor) apparently agreed. This problem professor was gone the next year.

The follow on course was taught by another professor the next semester. I got my usual A in that course. Hard work. But I enjoyed it. Keep in mind this was almost half a century ago.

Regional training departments are geared towards training pilots with zero 121 and jet time. F9’s training department is not……not yet anyway.

Not a training/hiring question.

Can someone tell me are we allowed to drop down to 50 hours using the trade board and dropping? Or do we still have to maintain the minimum credit value for the month? Thanks.

Flica will let you drop to 50, but you are responsible for meeting the minimum by the end of the month (60/70 depending on the month)

Any idea what the health insurance carrier is and a rough estimate for the cost to cover a family per month?
