Spoken like somebody with very little real world experience. What’s grueling is spending the next many years after obtaining that degree dodging thunderstorms in a piston twin. Or joining the military and sleeping in tents after a day being shot at. Or cleaning the “honey pot” out of a King Air because somebody honored you with occupying the right seat and letting you make some radio calls.
Your success has as much or more to do with good timing as it does your abilities.

I can list a hundred things that never happened to try a prove a point too. Try attending multiple classes, flying, working a part time job and planning your career. It may not be how it once was but the experience received at some schools is priceless. Much more than valuable than working a hokey job flying 45 min between two podunk towns. We’re flying CRJ FTDs before graduation, whereas guys wouldn’t even dream of touching those until their 30’s

You act like you’re the only one who has done that. As somebody that has walked that path AND done the flying you seem to think is useless AND didn’t get the opportunity to walk straight into a 100k per year job with a ridiculous sign on bonus to help pay off the loans I can confidently say you’re talking way out of your league.

Gents,
Sometimes you yanks are your own worst enemy. If this Ek Captain "washed out" then it is a huge loss to your airline and says plenty regarding the standards of your training department. I would not have a better Captain during a catastrophic event than him. Simply stated, he has proved himself in an event that should have been a hull lost in all practical standards.
Without going into details, he had a tragic lost in his family where he chose to take care of his remaining children. He walked away from a senior leadership role and prioritize his family. When he resigned, Ek management chose to not honour it and had him remain on the seniority list. That's speaks heaps about the respect he has earned.
I simply could not let anyone drag his professional persona regardless if he "washed out."

I didn’t know about his personal life.

you only know one side of the story. Schooling is expensive now, that’s why pay is higher. With inflation and all other things considered it’s probably right on par with what you made. Save your sob story, were all looking forward to making more money, and we all deserve it.
No. Come back when you have a clue
