It's so amazing to see the differing perspectives. The minute someone points out the major disparity of F9 vs everyone else IN THE INDUSTRY, there's almost always someone who compares F9 to various other jobs that exist outside the industry (worldwide actually).
Let's make sure we don't kid ourselves ...
Anyone who has chosen to go the aviation route for the purposes of a profession and are reading this are NOT Chinese iphone assemblers or mine workers or any of the other 10,000 worse jobs. We're all aware of the class level associated w/ 121 professional flying. As such, most people who have already spent the money, time and effort to become professional pilots want the BEST PAYING and MOST GLAMOROUS/PRESTIGIOUS pilot job possible (of course, there are always a few different who don't care about that but we're not talking about that VERY SMALL percentage). Flight instructors could go to regionals, get about the same pay, MORE flying and probably get on a waiting list for a major - but they come to F9 thinking it's better.
So, the comment about people being surprised at newhires coming here and being proud/happy was SPOT on. We all experienced that once. But, like w/ new hires, happiness is VERY FLEETING. It's the reason why we have so many grievances (industry leading). It's the reason why, despite being the ONLY major domestic airline with a training contract/used to have a bonus, we still have more people leaving for other airlines than any other airline (besides Spirit). But most important, it's the reason why we use the worse jobs we can on the planet to compare ourselves to - does anyone think any of the pilots at the Big 3 or SWA are complaining but saying "at least I'm not a coal miner?"
No, they're saying "at least I'm not at Frontier."

The industry and the economy are in a down turn right now.... This isnt JUST F9, it is industry wide. I would expect legacies to be hit extremely hard.
Stop acting like the sky is falling when the company offers COLAs for 5% of our pilots. There is no LOA for reduced lines and no mention of the F word yet.
Classes are reduced down to 6 for new hires in the May class. Not sure what the expectations are for upgrades.
Expect a merger with spirit or they just disappear. The NMB is cracking down on our negotiations and trying to get stuff down as well to justify their jobs for DOGE.
This could all end in 2 months or 2 years. We are still taking planes and will need pilots for those, and no, you cannot just instantly defer planes that are 4 months out. It takes a lot of contract talks and is also expensive. But our planes are going to be tariffed and have another $20m ontop of their normal 100m cost if everything stays how the big man in the WH wants it.

You guys are seriously nuts if you don't honeslty believe this is still an incredible job... I get it. Things could be better. We DESERVE more money. But lets not act like our job isn't better than 95% of the rest jobs in america. Within 3 years at f9 you're clearing 230,000 a year. Cmon man.
I, like many, spent YEARS getting to where I am.
go ahead and compare YOURSELF to whatever % you want. MY peers are way ahead of me.
