For the longest time I have defended the union and tried to steer everyone's frustrations towards the company and not the union.
Recent events have basically confirmed that I was wrong.
The union is an absolute disaster and it's hurting our negotiating progress. We now have a union that's infighting is so bad it basically can't function. Our mediator is giving the union time to clean up is act. That's costing us precious time in a fight against a company that's doing everything to slow roll negotiating.
Contract 2028. Delta may actually get one before us which was basically unthinkable before now.

The Capt Rep and Fo Reps are most definitely the problem. Hey let’s make a vote totally inconvenient to the other two bases. Let’s nit listen to the Alpa lawyers who have already done AQP at other airlines. They need to go ASAP. I will sign whatever needs to be signed to get those two out. They are self serving and don’t represent bathe pilots

OUR union is currently so dysfunctional and some LEC reps are SO PETTY, that they would rather put themselves before everyone else they represent. Who by the way, elected them because they put out good faith runs for the seats. It is clear those were not in good faith.
I can tell you all right now, there are so many good people who volunteer in this union and put so much time and effort in to help US, but they are getting burnt out and sick of the infighting.

But he's not going to be cleaning anything up, he's quitting. I don't blame him. The infighting is absolutely destructive. It's worse than Congress. Dysfunction junction. I can't believe that our own union is hurting our cause more than the company. We are absolutely f@cked.

MM just confuses the issue surrounding the AQP LOA in his podcast. We do have leverage if we don’t agree to the LOA. The company has been, for the last few years, putting together the pieces for an AQP program and It will soon be ready for implementation. The pilots have to approve it via an LOA as it will change our current book (cba). We want it, they want it, but we don’t want to give it up for free.
Why does the company want AQP? It costs a ton of money to start up, but the future cost savings are huge! If we don’t agree to an LOA we block their cost savings. That’s the leverage. Give us some of the things we want and we’ll be open to AQP (even though we want it too).
I’d love to hear the counterpoint in the event I’m missing something.

Not sure how many people are going to agree with you on that?

I’ll clarify—Good luck to the next MEC chair in cleaning this up. MM has decided to very publicly air our union’s dirty laundry on his way out the door. I’ve lost the little remaining respect I had for the guy because he chose to burn bridges on his way out the door rather than try to build them.
