Not getting run over by the morons that drive on the roadways as if the Earth is about to melt in the next 60 seconds due to climategate!!

A far more logical concern IMHO than sitting around worrying about climatologically events that have been occurring long before mankind was present and will keep on occurring regardless of how much we sit and worry about these events that are way beyond our control.

Some folks must have a mundane carefree life to have the time to sit around worrying about this kind of stuff. Wish my life was so carefree.

Todd, if you really need something to fret about may I suggest the types of social engineering that have killed more than 100 million humans in the last century-second only to disease and old age.

The Earth is a tough place, it is estimated that more than 90% of known life forms are now extinct. Nature is cruel enough without the kind of insane culture man can produce.

Part of that culture is seeing problems which can never have rational solution and then providing "cures" far worse than the problem.

State of the Climate
A couple of thoughts. Why does the NCDC exclude Alaska, about a 1/3 of U.S. landmass, from its report? Data are easily available and could be included in the headline of the report to which you linked. In fact, here is another page in the same NCDC report:

State of the Climate | National Overview | Annual 2012

From that report:

Alaska temperatures in 2012 were below the 1971-2000 average. The annual temperature for Alaska was 2.3°F below average, which ranked as the 11th coolest year on record for the state. Alaska had its coldest January on record with a statewide temperature 14.0°F below average and statewide temperatures remained cooler than average for much of the rest of 2012. Winter temperatures (December 2011-February 2012) were 1.4°F below the 1971-2000 average, spring temperatures were 2.7°F below average, summer temperatures were 0.7°F below average, and autumn temperatures were 1.1°F below average.

Global warming is supposed to be worse at the poles than in temperate or equatorial regions. So why exclude Alaska? I suspect it is because they wouldn't have their record then. I suspect that had Alaska brought the number up it would have been included.

News Alert!

Earthworms are now responsible for global climate change. I always knew I hated those little bastards.

The real issue is this. The northern hemisphere is shattering cold and winter records (record cold in Siberia and snowfalls in Russia). Whereas the southern hemisphere is setting record summer temperatures (Australia).

Seems to me, the Earth's atmosphere isn't protecting us like it use to. In other words, we aren't as insulated as before. The heat is released in the winter and the heat is let in during the summer.

And in between, the weather between these two extremes is becoming more extreme.

Do I believe we can do anything about it, no. So I am not worried.

Most everything originated in the lower 48 excludes Alaska. I notice it a lot more since I moved there...It's been pretty warm in AK this year though, going to be 38°F in ANC in a few days, and there isn't enough snow to run all of the dog-races this year (having to cut out parts, not over-work the dogs in the warm temps).

So very true. And the same holds true right here in the good ol' US of A, too. And not just as regards the warm-mongering, either.

I chuckled at the use of "what appears to be", but your use of "active collusion" is 100% accurate in both cases. It is people inside both driving an ideological agenda.

So much for global warming killing off all the polar bears. Their population is much higher now than it was in the 1979s.

Seems like people always have to have a “cause.” They follow like lemmings the ever-present current “causes” and never mind any logical or unbiased scientific findings (because that would wreck the cause).

Folks always think that humankind affects their surroundings far more than they really do. I guess it is hard for people to comprehend that we are more along for the ride than being able to appreciably effect our climate trends that evolve over thousands of years (with or without us). But, no way man! We have to have a cause and a biased view point to shove down everyone’s throat.
