That's the difference between being friends, and nice to your co-workers, and doing company work outside of your particular job.
When that CA said I'd get hung if something went wrong, he was absolutely right. A wingtip gets dinged, or someone gets hurt, and I'd be in the hot seat.

HUH? Who's hung?

I happen to agree BUT I didn't make that agreement with management, THEY DID and now have to live with it. However, YOU can't say they shouldn't do it...that ship has sailed.
True, just like if a pilot decides to help the rampers and fling bags and get hurt, they're NOT covered under Disability Laws (or so I've heard). Everyone has to do what's in their job description..nothing more, nothing less. While it's nice if someone helps out outside their job description, it's not necessary and as I've said I'd much prefer someone offering to pick up some food/beverage for those whose job it IS to tidy cabin, etc. By the same token, sometimes pilots are stuck during turns dealing with a mx issue or something else and can't grab stuff from the terminal. The FAs should offer. There's no "I" in team, after all!

In my time as an airline pilot I have never come across a time I didn't have time to run in a grab something.

I think I get where you're coming from and agree that getting food for a long duty day without a crew meal calls for a justifiable delay. There are some who won't do it, as you well know...

How do guys know that much about each other? Fight time, really? Do you swap resumes at the start of each pairing or something? I can't think of a time I have ever asked a guy on my flight deck how many hours he/she has.
