A couple of years ago we got an email from the union reminding us to check credentials on all JSers even if they have a seat in the back. The story goes that a crew was getting a line check from a fed. JSer checks in with the Captain, Captain tells him to grab a seat. After the formalities are done fed goes back to get JSers info since he is an XCM. Guy didnt have his license or medical on him so the Captain gets violated.
After that email I always check.
After that email I always check.

You touched it, you owned it. I always leave the plane clean and organized for the next people, even if I have to clean up the previous crew's mess. Whether or how I address the issue with the previous crew is my problem, but I don't just pass it along.

Sorry dude, it was pieces of paper down by the rudder pedals and maybe you like being on your knees, that's just not my thing.

Papercuts to the eyeballs during negative g turbulence encounters? Reflected sunshine starting a fire? Attracting Japanese origami artists to the flight deck where they then get stuck behind the rudder pedals? Very dangerous indeed.

The first part of my post was tongue in cheek, second part not so much.
