Hawaiian Hiring FOs

this is such a ridiculous statement. Hawaiian has operated relatively the same as Alaska and the rest of the industry when it comes to new hires. Only difference is that Prior to the freight operation we had only one base (I know there were times where there was other bases) so it took that part out of the equation.

I second this as a ridiculous statement. New hires were not valued at AS for a long, long time. They were leaving in droves when there were options just a couple years ago. My new hire experience included a cancelled class and 3 month delay for a new class. After I had called AS to confirm my class was on. After confirming my class was on the next day the same person I spoke with called and told me my class was cancelled. After I had given notice at my employer of course. Good times.
Ok it’s ridiculous because no airline valued their new hires. Not because HA valued us at $36, i get it “go somewhere else if you don’t like the pay”. See how welcoming that is 🙃.
Sorry, I didn’t know Alaska felt the same way about newbies but thanks for clarifying that they treated them bad there as well.

I’m fine!!! Can’t you see how happy I am!!! I’m happy!!
Seriously though, I can point out the culture and critique it while still being happy. The culture at the company has no bearing on my mood, there’s much more to life than work. Just wanted to point out the elephant in the room when it comes to being a new hire. Thanks for letting me know that one company isn’t more special than another. I’m happy to be speshul.

I’m thinking Commuting was probably the sticking point 717 vs Etops. Honestly though assuming commutability as a new hire across this industry day one is a bit presumptuous. Reserve is reserve in 18 day blocks regardless of what you are doing, so I’ve never fully understood that one. Just glad 36 bucks an hour is a distant memory. That was flagrant.

$86 or whatever it is is still a slap in the face compared to regionals and other legacy carriers. Our captain rates have lagged ~10% behind the industry standard and FOs ~15% despite our union promising to “narrow” the gap. Hope the new contract can bring both gains to the Alaska folks and parity for Hawaiian.
A positive thing about Hawaiian. The PWA has this “One hundred percent (100%) of the known flying at each Domicile shall be used to construct the Flight Groupings for the pilots to preference on their Monthly Run”
Does Alaska withhold flying for IOE? This mainly benefits FOs but I know some people who get a majority of their schedule pay protected because they buddy bid check airmen.
