What does not hiring in a decade have anything to do with it? That's precisely the reason many people have no TPIC time and yet 5000-8000+ hrs of SIC time. Because no one has hired and no CAs have left to provide a chance to move to the left seat. AA does not require TPIC time. Even in their last cycle circa 2000/2001 they did not require TPIC time. I assume you believe it is wrong because you have it and others don't?

I understand. We all fly in the same airspace, airports, etc. My point is that us regional guys have been flying mainline customers for years, are familiar with their procedures, operations, heck even use similar checklist and cockpit procedures, as well as AQP training programs. The transition and training to major airline flying would be a lot easier. I have nothing against military/cargo/charter/corporate guys, but it seems that A LOT of military guys are getting calls right now.

It is what it is… however it's just at the beginning, more chances and hiring will happen in 2013 (patience is key-- -I know its rough!). Things and qualification will change as time goes on.
I heard directly from someone very reliable, that one must 1) pass the assessment and then 2) have the computer spit out your name (based on whatever they have chosen to make a person competitive) for the next step which is the video interview….. those two steps must be accomplished on your own merit. The internal help matters once you have been invited for a face-to-face interview, but not until then.
Always a few exceptions I am sure, but that is how they are doing it and keeping it as fair as possible. But not even an executive can get someone pulled from the stack without those two things happening first through whoever point system has been set up within the Pilot Credentials application.
Again, always a few but rare exemptions I would imagine … but its not the norm at all. It all depends on what they have given the weight to in the scoring.
Good luck to us all!

For you AA guys...been hearing rumblings about APA and Eagle MEC meeting w/talks of stapling us to your list as that "B" scale. If that is true, how would that affect hiring?
That's a constant source for pilots for a long time. And if I'm not mistaking, the new hire rate is based on 824 flow ratw of 50%. I could be wrong about all of this, but too many folks from both sides has mentioned this to me over the past few months.

Mil pilots will ALWAYS be a desired candidate.
But the overall demographics go from a 50-50 to around 60-40 mil to civ new hires. That's just an average number.
For right here, and right now, DAL and AA are getting the civ demographic from the flows and pref interview systems. Even though the PNCL SSP ISN'T a guaranty, it's STILL a pipeline.
As far as USAir and UA, standard applies. Lots of mil guys getting hired, lots of civ guys getting hired. Lots of VERY competitive pilots (quantified by time/boxes checked) getting hired. Lots of non-competitive (quantified by flight time) getting hired making up for in other ways. Affiliations, connections, interns, friends/family, whatever.
Always been that way, ALWAYS gonna be that way.

I believe you're in the Thank You category. I certainly appreciated and was exceptionally proud of all the maintainers so much so that my family and i went around to thank them at my retirement. 5 combat tours and 20 yrs of vipers and came home everytime.
