Had the VP in the room for Q&A during CQ. He seemed genuinely surprised to learn that FOs were going sometimes 7-8 weeks without getting a call. He also tried to tell us that the Q is “still the fastest way to build time, especially on the captain side.” A few captains who had flown less than 300 hours in a year begged to differ. The only upside is that you can collect a decent paycheck for what’s essentially part time work. I usually try to fly on most of my days off and end up crediting over 100 hrs a month.

And they wonder why no one trusts or believes anything they say. If you come to Horizon hoping to build flight time quickly, you are in for disappointment. If you are already here and you want to get that 1000 hours of PIC time to be eligible to flow to AS, the only way you're going to get it is in the jet. In the Q will take you YEARS while all your friends are getting hired by majors.
Of course that's presuming they don't change Pathways rules again.
The numbers don't lie. 835 pilots for 60 aircraft is 14 pilots per plane vs industry average of 10. There just ain't enough flying to go around for everyone. To compound matters the more senior you are the more flying you can get(Thats what I do.Try and block 70-75 a month)

Trust what I see and not what AAG says. What I see is 3-4 years to be eligible.

"The more senior you are the more flying you get stuck with."
I'm a middle of the pack Q400 captain based in Portland. My schedule for July has been horrible. I've also gotten at least a dozen texts for premium pay in the last 48 hours. It's the first time I've seen "green" trips (150% pay) in quite a while.
As a cruel experiment, I've decided to bid reserve for September. I will report back with my findings.
I don't doubt that a couple of the bases are overstaffed. I'm still puzzled by the huge number of Spokane overnights (thought we had a base there?) and reserve utilization in Medford (why the heck do we need airport reserve in Medford?). Boise seems to be somewhat understaffed at the moment.

They don't want to pay those guys an extra 4.2 anymore when a flight is scheduled to come in after midnight. Cheaper to pay for a hotel

That would make sense, except that all of my Spokane layovers have been a.m. trips - in other words, we get in around mid-afternoon and go to the hotel. I wonder if the company is trying to gin up some excuse to close down the Spokane base.

Hasn’t closing GEG been the rumor for a while? I’m not at QX, but I’ve heard it from people who are.

Speaking of hotel, does anyone know whether any of the hotels near PDX has a crew rate for a pilot paying out of pocket to stay? The best online rate I can find is the Ramada for under $100/nt but I stayed there once years ago and wasn't impressed.
