Nice attitude. Maybe you have had a golden ride.
Some of us haven’t been so fortunate. Two places I’ve worked at don’t exist anymore. I’ve been furloughed, downgraded, and seen two bankruptcies. I’ve worked at good places and bad. Ive seen three year upgrades change to 15 year upgrades. I’ve worked under concessionary contracts and helped vote in better ones.
I’m humbled to be here, and try to enjoy every day at work when I can. Some days are easy, some aren’t.

I haven’t walked any miles in your shoes, but I have seen what you post for several years now. Hopefully some of that humility will show in the cockpit. Best of luck here. I, too, think I am very lucky to be here. But golden ride? Laugh. If only you knew...

I’ve had one min call out. It happens, don’t know how often really, but it doesn’t seem THAT often. Once you start building a little seniority you can aggressive pick up trips on your reserve days (supposedly, I’ve had that happen once so far).
RAPs change all over the map. No consistency that I’ve seen whatsoever, they’ve been 10pm-3am and 9am-10pm and everything in between.

Yeah, there was airport reserve. That sucked. But I’d take that with everything else.

The amount of time is irrelevant when comparing RULES. I plan on sitting rsv here for 12 months.

And I have already been EMAd twice within a month.
EPS is more important. VDA is you helping the company staff for less.
EPS forced them to staff correctly and honor your schedule.

I think reserve very much depends on your base and seat. As a BOS E190 FO, it’s been pretty easy so far. I’ve never had a RAP begin before 1330 day 1, and I’ve not been used on day 1 yet (I’ve done 4 months of reserve now). Most guys in my class are barely flying, and this during the summer too. One even DQ’d because he didn’t consolidate. I’ve been able to make it home on my last day every time except for one, and I’ve gotten several REL on the last day. Being able to commute in (on a mid morning flight too) on day 1 and home on the last day has made commuting to reserve much better than I expected here. This is just my experience, YMMV. CA’s on reserve here get used a LOT.

Yup, they went from an open reserve grid with transparency to a sudden red grid. I was able to regularly change around days around during initial, then one month it all changed. Was like that for several months and very frustrating because there was no reasoning from the company and no major change in staffing.
It got slightly better, but it was better than here overall from what I’ve seen and those I’ve talked to.

Yup, the 320 is the opposite. Guys in my class are regularly commuting in a day early and not making it home on the last day.
Everyone consolidated.
I just looked at my July schedule and actually had five days of SCL not used. All two days and day trips. August has been nothing but two day trips.

I never commuted in a day early unless I wanted to for personal reasons. There is no need, with the earliest day 1 RAP of 1000 plus 2.5 hours.

All depends on your timing. If you’re a 320 or 190 JFK new-hire needing consolidation in the summer months with a major runway broken until November....you’re probably gonna have a bad time.

Depends on your commute too. I could also easily make a 1000 RAP, but if you have a 2 leg or cross country commute a 1500 RAP might not be late enough.
