So first, I took my family over last month…ZED on Virgin Atlantic out of LAX was an awesome experience. Full flight but the agents made sure we had good seats and the FAs were VERY attentive (the croissants we gave them were a hit). Coming back on JB no upgrade to a mostly empty MINT because we are not eligible as NK non-revvers. It was a bummer, and a bit befuddling at the time since I didn’t know the policy and even one of the FA’s asked me about the merger and said “we love you guys.” My thought was “Well, then why aren’t you upgrading us!?” Lol. Oh well, it is a dumb policy and I’m glad you guys are trying to get it fixed. Funny how that stuff matters, but it does. The back of the bus seats were plenty comfortable, however.

We booked our ZED on MyID and paid the fees then….

Dude, we don’t even let our Mosaics sit in Mint if the cabin crew aren’t Mint FA’s. My flight was upgauged last month, had a number of Mosaic frequent flyers on it, and that cabin went 100% empty. No wonder they leave for status elsewhere. You think DAL is making medallions ride in the back with an empty F class cabin?!

They do. I believe even AA is going that route. You need to pay to play for business class on legacies on international flights, even as a frequent flyer.

When they use a Mint spare to replace a non-Mint route/flight, they don't cater the aircraft or have any Mint trained FAs onboard. That is the reason they don't seat anyone in the Mint seats on a non-Mint flight.

I sorta get where that policy is coming from, but at the same time it seems somewhat foolish…
Preserve product integrity/image? Or use all available resources and maximize resource utilization? I would personally prefer the latter.

Well, they don't have an in-between product. It's either Mint with catering and service, or it's not.

And there are particularities about the Mint seats and galley that could become a problem if the FAs aren't trained to use them and/or help the customers use them.

I really don't think it is entirely a Mint product image preservation thing.

I can imagine people getting upgraded into the mint seats on a non-catered/non mint FA flight… the *****fest that would ensue. “Omg I’m in “mint” and all they game me were the same chips the normal people in the back got?! Boycott JB!”

Yep, even if they were told in advance, and when the flight attendants go through and do compliance checks on complicated seats and suites that they aren't trained on....

Wow, so there is a whole sub-category of FA's that are trained for Mint/seats that only they know how to operate and/or do the service? First airline I've heard of that does it that way.
