I love chat boards. It’s astounding how an innocuous question can be misconstrued as braggadocio by individuals who don’t understand why that question is asked. Vitriol is so much more fun, you guys have all made that abundantly clear no matter which side you fall on. It’s interesting that it seems to always be the same very small group of keyboard warriors on these discussions, too.
Let’s be honest with ourselves, we work in an environment where people tout their experience for everything they do. We see it on these discussion boards, too. Half the people posting on this thread are guilty of it when they write things along the lines of: You’ve haven’t been here long enough to understand… That is what has piqued my curiosity.
I asked the question about who has served on an NC not to toot my own horn, but because there has been a continual demonstration of a lack a basic understanding of not just how negotiations work, but and almost more importantly, how and when information is disseminated by either the NC or the MEC. It’s been posited over and over again that the NC and MEC is somehow working in secrecy and therefore must be up to something nefarious. Negotiations are not generally conducted publicly and the trickle of information that people call for during sessions serves to do nothing constructive. It weakens the position, sets up false expectations and undermines credibility.
The membership demands transparency but doesn’t understand what that is and how it works. It has been made abundantly clear how ignorant of this process many of our colleagues are both on these boards and at the road shows.
And for the record, I was a charter captain.

But seriously, you guys have made my question legitimate by your own posts.

Everything we post about the NC or MEC is conjecture anyway.
To answer mainline’s question: I was not “in the room” here, and I was a captain at a charter for the better part of a decade.

Even JB management has agreed to include these airlines in our peer-set. Thank GOD you aren't on the NC, I can't even imagine the depths of low you would agree to in a CBA. But keep blessing us with your incredible ideas, and ALL HAIL ReachLow, another perfectly hired Blue.

I think you can make a good case for voting either way on this. There’s no right or wrong answer. Nobody truly knows that voting it down would be the best thing or vice versa. After listening to the NC the other night, I’ll just say I was less than thrilled. At the very least, I wanted my No vote to help send a message and skew the data. If that makes any sense. I’m guessing 33-35% No. Then it’s time to start gearing up for the JCBA. That’ll be our last good bite at the apple for quite some time.
