You'll make more money on the 190 because you'll be a line holder sooner, and after 2 years you can bid over to the bus if you want. (People bidding over is why you move up so fast on the 190.)

If you live in base and just loooove red eyes, bid the bus. Otherwise I'm not sure why a new hire would want it. Obviously if you live in FLL or Long Beach, it makes sense. If you live in Boston, go for the quicker movement. At least, that's what I would do if given a choice.

FWIW it just depends on your class makeup as to whether you'll be able to hold the bus. Sometimes it goes junior, especially if the class is full of commuters that understand it will get them off reserve sooner, and make their commutes better.

Good luck!
That's some really insightful info I never really considered or thought of.

So how far on a trip would the 190 go out of JFK? Does it hit the Caribbean or go to Mexico or do they stay pretty much in the NorthEast? It would be nice to see what some of the typical trips look like for the 190 and the 320 out of JFk ... But you certainly gave me some things to think about that I really never considered.

I do wonder what age was senior in the last class to hold a 320 and do most people still try to get the 320?

190 is mostly northeast, with some Florida and occasional SJU. 2-3 legs/day avg

320 is mostly west coast, Caribbean, Florida and occasional Northeast layovers. 1-2 legs/day avg

Average daily credit for each fleet is very close to the same (~5.6hrs credit/day I believe?). So if you are bidding 50% seniority on the E190 you are probably making the same total pay as someone bidding 70% on the A320, but getting whatever days off you want and more ability to pick up extra flying if you desire. You'll probably hit 50% on the E190 faster than you'd hit 70% on the A320. I'm approaching 3 years and would be 30% on the BOS/JFK E190 or 70% on BOS/JFK A320. Pretty big difference.

If getting certain days off (weekends, holidays, etc) is important to you then I'd do the 190. If flying to warm destinations is a priority then I'd go with the 320.

Bid divisors go up and down seasonally, but the bid target is usually in the mid-80s for BOS/JFK 320/190. There isn't a big difference in line values by fleet.

Do any JFK 190s or 320s go to the Caribbean or PR a lot? Do the 320s from JFK make it to South America or is that more a FLL or MCO trip?

Friend of mine got on with 3700 hrs. as an FO. For what it's worth.

JFK 320s do the bulk of PR and Caribbean. JFK 320s do Cartegeña, but that's about it for S.America. FLL/MCO 320 does most of it.

That's some good info on lines/domiciles/aircrafts. Thanks.
Hopefully I won't dork up the interview so I can put some of that info to use!
Does 45 qualify as an old - timer in the new hire classes these days?

Thanks, yeah they have around 4000-5000hrs, but I think the fact that they have ~1500TPIC is hurting them. I told them it's for the best if JB doesn't want them. They are good guys that some lucky legacy will land.
