Given that reserves have been maxing out on hours - and getting paid over on it - with 16 more aircraft coming in 2026, you'd think that they HAVE to hire.

Say what? Who's getting maxed out? I flew 275 hours last year, and half of that was because I had a line for 2 months. Maybe the C series guys are getting abused, but not on the 320.

Any ideas how many retirements in 2026 plus how many pilots have left for other airlines? I know we've had B6 pilots in our fall new hire classes. You'd think those alone would require more pilots. Certainly taking on 16 more planes would require some hiring if not planes are being parked.

Same. I sat short call 320 CA JFK last year from Jan to Sept and flew 122 hours.

I think we retire 44 in 2026 and lost 220 for 2025. Y’all may disagree but attrition is low considering the outlook for Jetblue.

We’re fat on the 220 side too

Also it was mentioned that we hired for growth and the spirit merger. Now that neither of those are happening, we are in technical terms, overstaffed. We’re not unique in offering RSA/VDA to cover the occasional IROP or winter storm. Imagine how much more money we’d lose if we hired for 1% of operations. It sucks for potential hires and it’s great for people that don’t want to fly but it’s just how it is at the moment. Maybe something changes in the next year. Honestly who knows.

I’ve heard management say they are comfortable with the attrition and should hiring occur it will likely come from gateway candidates. After all, you have to reward those who paid you 150K for a job.

Occasional IROPS? We’re talking about JetBlue. We had 4 IROPS in December and 4 more in November. Nothing occasional about our IROPS.
