3-day trip BOS-PHX-BOS commutable both ends. Block is less than 12 hours, pays 15 hours.
Total for both trips credit 23 hours
With in-base layovers:

Day one BOS-IAH-BOS, layover.
Days 2-4 BOS-PHX-BOS
4-day trip pay 20 hours.
Saves the company 3 hours soft time.

Ain't that the truth.........I know Millenials can't stand to hear this but there will always be crapshoot element to it. I know some want what United has where they publish the "snapshot" everyday. Yet the "snapshot" results are different everyday as it inevitably leads to pilots bidding what they think they can hold not what they want.........which is contrary to the Unions and Companies guidance. The final results always have surprises anyway. When people say "ohhhh I didn't want JFK 220 CApt"...what they really mean is "I didn't want JFK 220 Capt at that seniority"................there is a percentage tool .......just sayin

Yes, Trip rig is currently 3.5:1. 3:1 would turn most 4day trips into 22-24hrs min credit. Minimum daily credit is another way to fix it. 6hrs min day credit would make a 4day pay 24hrs.
I dont think anyone gives a poop about overnighting in base vs somewhere else, but the loss of pay is the main gripe.

Just increasing the minimum day rig, would incentivize adding turns to the front and back of each trip.
Think the better way to go is to go with a better TAFB rig.

Here's a mathematical breakdown of some ways in-base layovers are saving them money and costing us (pilots):
This is a spreadsheet calculator where I can examine pairings and see how the RIGs are affecting credit, and also play with different RIGs to see how credit would change in a future CBA.

We can’t negotiate how a company constructs pairings (for the most pair), but maybe throw in a no in-base overnight clause in there? Thinking out loud on this one. Besides the money pilots lose, is there any pros to having these types of pairings constructed?
