IMHO possibly a long time as of right now. With the current downturn in cargo revenue I wouldn’t think that significant growth beyond what is already planned is going to take place within the near future. Most are hopeful about the 777 but DHL likes their sub-contractors many and small. Really no one knows. I think there’s a lot of optimistic momentum carried over from the last few years of rapid expansion and vastly improved contract. Some seem to think this will continue and that a new contract is on the near horizon. I’m not so sure. The uptick is decent FO rates.

The simple answer is that there is nothing on the company's immediate road map that a current or near-future joiner could point to and say "that's where I'll upgrade". A lot of hiring has already been done in the name of future growth, and the f/o list is longer than it's ever been. There is still attrition in the middle of the list to other carriers, but nothing like the demographic cliff that the legacies are facing. What we have is a lot of optimism regarding the future of the 777 program, a lot of "tribal knowledge" that K4 is better positioned to operate in a challenging market than some of our competitors, and a status quo that is more agreeable to most than other ACMI operators.
Anyone with an interest in joining right now needs to be familiar with our current contract's f/o rates for monthly guarantee well beyond year 3, and weigh their options accordingly. Anyone who is betting the farm on a lightning-fast contract or on us emulating the kind of growth that, say, Atlas has had over the past 10 years is doing themselves a disservice, in my opinion.

Well yes, the thread already has plenty of hype from those of us hired in the first half of 2018 or earlier. I'd be thrilled to offer a new joiner the same deal I currently have, where I bid the top quarter of f/os on the fleet that habitually breaks guarantee every month while waiting for a captain slot to present itself. New joiners will not have the same fortune we currently enjoy. As much as there is to like about our job at all levels of the seniority list, some perspective is definitely in order, and realistic expectations for advancement would be in the best interests of both new hires and the company.
