Hiring is stalled out right now while they try to figure out to do the HR and Sim portions without spreading the virus to each other.

I’ve been in the “referred” stage for 3 weeks now. Does that mean I’ve not been selected or is that normal?

I see the above poster says hiring is halted. Maybe that’s it. But the CMO’s I applied to are all in Texas which is pretty wide open from the covid bs.

"Referred" means you meet the published requirements, and HR has put your name on a list given to the CMO manager for consideration.

You may, or may not get selected for an interview. For instance, HR takes the list and ranks each person, then sends the list to the manager. If there are 5 people on the list, the manager may elect to interview all 5, or maybe 3. Once the calls go out for interviews, if someone decides not to interview (it happens), then he goes back to the list and selects another.

Be patient, government hiring is a slow process. Interviews are typically given by supervisors and managers, they need a panel of 3, and it's a part of their other duties, so they have to schedule in time for interviews. And right now the covid BS is slowing everything down. Offices are doing business, but everyone is still working remotely.

Thanks for the info. I’m a likely furloughed UAL Pilot. Hope that doesn’t hurt my chances. I’ve been a 121 LCA in the recent past.... guess we will see. I’m honestly excited at the opportunity to try something new and not live out of a suitcase.

They look at certificates, flight time and previous experience. They really don't care that you are a furloughed pilot, they care more about what you did while you were operating under 121. LCA is a good addition to the resume

If you make it to ACO and still want AEG, you might have a path from a CMO to AEG. Some ACO’s are selected to serve on Flight Standardization Boards (FSB). This is lead by an AEG Inspector, so it’s a great way to network while you wait for a vacancy.

Realistically you are looking at 5-7 years at a FSDO or CMO before you are close to being competitive for an AEG position. This could change based on what type ratings you may hold.

See, this is good info. I imagine networking with AEG guys and gals would be helpful in trying to get in. I’m fine with it taking time though. Best to figure out what it’s like to work at the FAA for a few years before getting into something like AEG, I imagine.

For a primer on AEG, refer to the following docs:

-FAA Order 8110.4C, FAA Order 8900.1, Volume 8, Chapter 2 and AC 120-53B

It helps to have FSDO or CMO time prior to AEG because you will need experience with
Airman Certification (giving ATP/ type rating rides) and also strong knowledge of MMELs.
It also helps to have prior experience as an APM or AAPM.

Any idea if the FAA allows you to stay inactive on a seniority list (I.E. 5-year LOA, Furlough) while being hired as an ASI?. I’m ready to give it up. As I understand there is still a probationary period with the FAA and if I don’t have to it would be nice to keep my number.
