First year CA pay on the A319 (128 seats): $255/hour = $2 per seat
First year CA pay on the E175 (76 seats): $76/hour = $1 per seat

Regional pilot subsidize mainline pilot wages. It's a Ponzi scheme.[/QUOTE]

Major airlines are posting quarterly profits in the billions. The only thing regional pilots are subsidizing are airline profits and not mainline wages.

Please compare the productivity of airlines like SWA vs. the regionals. I just flew a three day trip with 11 legs and flew 1600 passengers (nearly 17 block).

Im glad we don’t have a regional connection.

There's no doubt swa is some of the hardest workers in the field. I think regional pilots are payed based on experience level not on productivity or profit generation. We certainly work for less than we are worth to the company but that doesn't make it a ponzi scheme, though the outsourcing is undeniably a net benefit to mainline pilots vis a vis profit sharing

Just curious here, what exactly do you think fuels wage and benefit increases for mainline pilot groups? That money has to come from somewhere come negotiation time. I'll give you a hint, it's in something called a form 10-K.

We have 4 days with 18 legs, and 4 days with 22 hours block. SWA pilots are likely the most productive pilots if nr of passengers transported is the criteria. You guys pretty much fly regional trips just in a 737.

We do four day trips as well, and also include transcons i.e BWI to SMF.

My point is is that the revenue generated by a 737 vs an EMB-145 just isn’t the same.

Delta Airlines made $6.2 billion last year. If it stopped outsourcing to regionals would it suddenly become unprofitable? I'm going to say "No". I think the 10-K backs me up. The money that fuels mainline wage and benefit increases is available regardless of regional pay. Low regional pay subsidize nothing but increased profits for management and Wall Street.

This is a flase dichotomy argument. Of course delta as a stand alone is profitable. But How can we compartmentalize margin and confirm where and how it's allocated? Regional pilots don't pull most of the weight but they pull a weight that is disproportionate to wages that is undeniable. They deserve honorable mention in the profit sharing PR campaign at the very least.

Money is fungible.

Definition of fungible

1: being something (such as money or a commodity) of such a nature that one part or quantity may be replaced by another equal part or quantity in paying a debt or settling an account
