Any examples since, where the unions pushed something that wasn't good for the members? (lol I can hear Reagen saying, "trust (the unions), but verify...")

I get what you're saying... but I still believe in due diligence.
So far every poll I've seen by pilot groups done by their local unions, people for age 67 are in the minority. So ALPA national is doing right for what their members want them to do. Haven't seen one poll yet where yes to 67 was the majority.

Nothing I know about how airline unions (or unions in general) operate (admittedly, I feel very little) would be in conflict with my personal beliefs.

So honestly, I don't know. I do need spend more time understanding what it means to be a union member at an airline.

But currently, I see no problem.

If your personal beliefs include maximizing your pay, benefits and working conditions then you will want to work for a unionized airline.

i lived thru the 60-65 age change. It was an unmitigated disaster that we now call "The Lost Decade".
Can you tell us the main factors in the lost decade?

We all know where 1/2 of the lost decade came from. So too would be the likelihood of pairing a 2 year increase with an eventual economic downturn. Supply has already caught up with demand and we are seeing hiring halted, curtailed, and even pilot reduction measures at some of the airlines.

To add to your list multiple airline bankruptcies and a world wide economic collapse in 2009.

At Delta age 65 resulted in a 2 year and 4 month impact. It was never 5 years as 50% of the pilots historically didn't even make it to 60.

From the down at the regionals looking up, age 65+2008 recession looked very much like like a five-year intermission for the band. But a lot of that was recession.

Maybe the first two.

How long has it been since you've worked as a CFI? It's busy, uncomfortable, and frankly dangerous. I have fon memories of those days, drinking with the crew, borrowing a company plane for a week-end getaway with the GF, but not so much the pattern work, stalls, spins, and Vmc demos. I was happy to move on to the airlines, and I wouldn't look forward to going back to that.

I would happily do ground school or sim, assuminmg a short commute from the Casa.
