I don't believe it's dead until I see Stretch45 come here and tell what his inside sources say.

I think this could be a false rumor. I don't find that TSA bypass language in this bill?
Anyone found it?

Not sure about that, but here is the article.

WASHINGTON, April 29 (Reuters) - U.S. House and Senate negotiators said early Monday they had reached a deal to boost air traffic controller staffing and boost funding to avert runway close-call incidents, but will not increase the airline pilot retirement age to 67 from 65.
The U.S. House of Representatives in July voted 351-69 on a sweeping bill to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) that would also raise the mandatory pilot retirement age to 67 but the Senate Commerce Committee had voted in February to reject the retirement age increase. International rules would have prevented airline pilots older than 65 from flying in most countries outside the United States.

Yes it was close in the grand scheme because it managed to get in the HR but nobody in DC was really opposed, that vasrt majority didn't really care and it sounded like it mkight help the pilot shortage. The opposition appears to have been drummed up by industry lobbyists. ALPA certainly got some press coverage, so dues money at work. We don't know how hard the A4A lobbied against it, there could have been a lot going on behind the scenes there... that kind of lobbying is only done in public if they want it to be public.

This is often repeated, but neglects that it originally only passed by 1 vote in house committee. While there was broad support for the final bill, 67 was also a minor issue in the house that only barely made it out.

I agree with your larger point that this was a close call, but it’s not like the whole house wanted it.

That's what it ended up becoming. But it was quite a bit closer last year, if you disregard a near miss it might happen again.

Hallelujah!

if you’re 65, you don’t gotta go home but you can’t stay here!

I have to think A4A was lobbying hard behind the scenes. There is no way any of the CEO's wanted this, especially with ICAO at 65. We'll probably never know, but between ALPA and A4A, it was probably just a tease, and a hard dissapointment for, a bunch of 63/64 y/o's...

“The provision, backed by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), would have provided security escorts and special screenings for members of Congress, judges and Cabinet members who face what federal law enforcement experts determine to be real threats. The covered individuals would not decide their own eligibility.”

actually, you might have it mixed up.

the “majority” of pilots didn’t want to raise the age.

the “one guy” was the Congressman bother of a Delta pilot who hatched this nonsense.

And LEPF was the “special interest.”

Mainline pilots aligning themselves with anti-labor politicians and the RAA. They sold out and got nothing for it.

That photo with a bunch of LEPF pilots standing proudly next to Cruz is funny and sad.
