Simple solution. Repeal the knee jerk reaction to the COLGAN AIR 3407 crash, CFR 121.436. Expatted from Europe to Asia for some 15 years. It worked here when all that was required was Commercial Multi Instrument rating to occupy the right seat of an airliner. Like the rest of the world, allow for the issuance of the R-ATPL.

They gave a R-ATP. It really isn't too much to ask to have 1-2 years of aviation experience before you get into the right seat of a jet

Age 60 to 65 was implemented horribly, one date and boom 5yrs stagnation. If we had any politicians/ regulators with intelligence, they would've staggered it in over like 10yrs by raising the age one year every two years. Then it wouldn't have shocked the system so hard.

You think a class 1 is a robust and thorough? Do you do standup on the weekends?

A properly administered class 1 coupled with a properly administered CQ sim cycle should make any deficiencies known. That coupled with planes that have automation that makes single pilot ops much more manageable than 20yrs ago.

Yes I stand at 6’2” everyday not just weekends and I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying both the military FC1 and shall I say the “cliffs notes” civilian version. If you’ve read my previous posts with an ounce of comprehension you would have seen that I also think the civilian class 1 needs to become more rigorous and pertinent to todays lifestyles.

Or just remove the HIPPA barrier and have the FAA have instant and constant updated access to your PCP, Specialist, ER, and Pharmacy care. Wonder what the workforce reduction would be overnight? I’d wager 15%.

Hey, whatever it takes to make sure that I at least get to work as long as I want. Treadmill, blood test; weed out the weak.

These guys sound like they are addicts. Nothing bad could ever happen to them. Weed everyone else out because they know they're healthy and could fly until 80.

Then we need to update the medical process first. Increasing the retirement age before we fix the medical is putting the cart before the horse. Without a real medical system in place, there is no point even discussing raising the retirement age.
