Isnt the allure of living in the sticks the lack of services. Giving people something they don’t even want or clearly need. If they needed it there would be demand. I’d there were sufficient demand airlines would serve it.

Like I hinted in my last post, the housing market is gettting bubbly. There are a lot of marginal buyers trying to get their first house ... I suspect many of them are counting on not paying back their student loans. These are not the people that you want to buy a house next to you because they'll default in a heartbeat.
Now, unfortunately, the current housing market is very tight across most of the US and this is reflected in home builders' stocks which keep rising as they sell every spec home they build. I moved this spring and we lost out on four homes before we finally got an offer that was accepted.
You express concern about first time buyers who can't afford to buy. I express concern about the possibility of them buying a home near me because they are in large part marginal buyers who are high risk for default. It's great that you're compassionate about these people, but you're betting on a lot of people who lack the financial skills to manage a home mortgage/budget. If they were able to manage their budget, they'd be able to save up enough money for a 20%+ down payment on a home.

And while yeah, most 250hr pilots can't handle a jet (they seem to do ok in Europe with it?) maybe something like 500 hrs or 700 hours would have been a good middle point.

Why? It worked for many years before that. Colgan had nothing to do with the amount of time the pilots had.

I should have known you'd weigh in with that kind of comment.
What you don't realize is the damage you do to these people when they default on their mortgages. And most marginal buyers will eventually.
Some will totally trash the house and find themselves facing a judgment for the rest of their lives if they can't get them dismissed in bankruptcy. Either way, their finances are crushed.
Others will become zombies and just walk away from the house leaving all of their belongings. I'll bet you've never walked through a foreclosure where the previous occupants left everything, including family photo albums and other memories of significant family events.
More than a few end up homeless.
No, they're better off as renters. Home ownership wrecks so many marginal buyers' lives. But someone like you ignore the damage you do with your misplaced empathy. You learned absolutely nothing from the great recession.
