In an ATL centric world you'd think we got rid of RJs for the most part. Then you go to DTW or MSP and realize oh yes there are still 500+ of those things running around compared to our domestic fleet of about 600.

On airliners.net, airline porn site, someone had compiled a statistic from winter 2014 showing how many DAL flights by hub were mainline vs regional.

ATL 70% mainline. Neat.
DTW 35% mainline and 65% DCI.
MSP 40% mainline and 60% DCI.
LGA 27% mainline and 73% DCI.
SLC 39% mainline and 61% DCI.
JFK 61% mainline and 39% DCI.
LAX 52% mainline and 48% DCI.
CVG 21% mainline and 79% DCI.

Holding off on the remaining 30 76-seaters is probably not because they have second thoughts about regional jets, if that was the case why order 40?

In fact, someone was telling me just yesterday that supposedly our guys went to pick up a 717 and it was still in AirTran paint. Supposedly it had to be delivered because of a 76-seater showed up too early. I wasn't there, I don't know.

I have never found their insurance that good of a deal. Get some quotes from other sources and see how they match up.

I am in my 36th year and have had ALPA Loss of License insurance since the beginning. I even carried the Harvey Watt lump sum coverage until I was canceled this month at age 60.

Is it worth it??? Depends, I am sure there are other programs or policies that "may" be better, but in 1978 when I enrolled, there weren't a lot of options.

What it did offer was peace of mind. I knew if I couldn't return to work, then I was going to have a smooth transition to another career field.

In my case, I considered it worth every penny.

Fly safe,

OC

It was decided in the preflight briefing. They all came to the concensus that you NEVER let a F-15 driver get behind you....NEVER. The rest was decided by rock, paper, scissors.

That's a bummer.

Is "the official airline of your mom" taken?

If they aren't going to use the large RJ's, that sounds like a free way to tighten up scope at one of the most egregious levels. While we're at it, there is another constructive opportunity to roll back the AS code share abuse potential by tightening it up as it shrinks naturally. Another pilot group shouldn't have the permanent ability to flex up an entire coast's worth of flying just on general principle.

As for more 717's, are there any credible sources? There were some laying around before we got ours from SW, but once we did they all seemed to magically disappear. Either an orphaned airframe with so-so CASM suddenly got popular with tiny LCC's around the world or there is some creative claim staking going on akin to some of the early dotcom domain name land grabs.

At least we don't have to put delta-air.com on the napkins anymore though.
