Seriously. I agree with what you are saying. There is no agenda from this DPA other than decertification. However, that knife cuts both ways.

Can you honestly say that there is a clear and communicated agenda from ALPA vis a vis C12 or anything for that matter? How long should we all wait for that communication from them. Before talks start? During? After?

I would imagine that there would be no DPA if it were not for the sorely lacking communications skills of both DALPA and ALPA National.

Man this post has taken off faster than any other post in my memory. A very raw nerve has been struck. Just as a casual note; We have a payroll of approximately $1.8 billion/year. If I'm not missing any decimal places, that's $36 million a year in dues money, at 2% per member. You think that'd be enough to get an independent union up and running. Not sure, but that observation may be the proverbial "grenade thrown into the room". One thing is pretty apparent---there's a lot of guys that want to see some serious change occur WRT their representation. No matter HOW that's achieved. Me included.

Ok I propose, what would you guys demand of a DPA leader vis a vis a DALPA and or ALPA leader? What do you want changed that cannot be changed here?

What are you willing to pay to have the National services "outsourced" to contract companies to give you the same level of support that ALPA does?

What says this DPA will solve the ills that ALPA has? Is there a way that you can guarantee it will not succumb to the same fate? (look at the APA infighting)

Frankly I am curious! No really.

Chuck, I think all of us agree a new direction needs to be taken. We just disagree on the medium in which to use.

When I said "change WRT representation", I did NOT mean my LEC/MEC reps. I am very happy w/ my lec guys, mec, no so much, but mostly ok with them. But the national level....what the heck is going on up there in Herndon? Waay too much of our money being spent on non-essentials. Can you say rubber rat? (Sorry---just too easy a target). But when the staff secretaries are making more than Buzz is as a 737 F/O....man, that just ain't right in anybody's book--no pun intended.

I know your post is sort of in jest and I'm not a huge ALPA cheerleader by any means, but I do think it is smart to get in touch with people that are attempting to enter the industry.

If we were in touch with every single one of them, maybe GoJets wouldn't have been able to staff the fleet.

Bottom line is, educating future pilots is a good thing.

ACL,
You'd be the kind of leader a whole lot of this pilot group would be glad to follow. You always present good arguments, but aren't stuck in any one flow of thought, and open to good healthy debate. I'd vote for your representation.

I absolutely agree... I was just enjoying the irony.

1) I said those communication efforts are fatally flawed a couple of posts ago. We do OK under duress, but there has never been an effective effort to keep the dialogue going between the union and the pilots in quieter times.

2) I'm reading what you wrote: "...there is no agenda from this DPA other than decertification...". That is absolutely frightening on its' face. Either it's true (there is no plan other than decertification), and it's bizarre. Or it's false, and we're being lied to. In a gross, obvious way. Either way, this is one communication effort that makes anything ALPA does look... great in comparison.

This is bascically rolling out an ad campaign without a product. And some want to buy already. I'm amazed.
