Delta Pilots Association

Carl;
Will guys like you step up and make sure that the same positions and ideals do not get forwarded to the new association after its founders has lost favor? If not after one or two cycles we will be back and the same place we are at. This is of course if we are not O.B.E before then.

ACL, I don't want to come off as condensending. After just over 20 years in ALPA at several different airlines, nothing has changed. It has only become worse. We really need to ask ourselves is what we want and need from our union and whether ALPA can accomplish that or perhaps another organization.
Waiting another twenty years is not an option for any of us here reading this thread.

The problem is they say what we want to hear, then get in office and follow through on zero of their promises. That's typical politics IMO, and has been going on for years on all levels. I'm not sure we will ever break that cycle. I think the only thing that will change with a new union is that we will lose all our ground that we have in Washington.

How nice it would be for major airlines to "win" this huge concession from major pilots, only to find that no pilot wants to work for those wages...NO MATTER WHAT!

At the very least- ALPA needs SERIOUS reform. If they do not show valid progress toward that reform after this arising, it's time to go ahead and go with the DPA.
I'll be sending in my card as a shot across the bow. I want results, not continued chest pounding.

Carl; That is easy to say from the seat of a 744. Most of these pilot were 1) not educated on the industry as a whole and 2) really had no other option.
They are not scare tactics Carl, they are the way I see them. This challenge to the power base is something they will need to deal with, and if it is successful, I suspect that the same faces will appear in positions of power.
As for UAUA and CAL, thus far they are proving they can fight for scope at the local level. I hope they can convert that in to a actual contractual line item. That will prove to many the ability of a mainline carrier to hold a line. At a min it shows now that they can fight for the flying they gave up.
