Delta has a TA
#521
From what I've heard, we will see some improvements to several areas of our contract: scope, medical, sick leave, vacation, LTD, and pay for home study. The pay rates will be somewhat of a disappointment to many. To be released on Monday. I've heard it passed the MEC by a wide, but not unanimous, margin.

Other than what Ed said, ie. replacing 50 seat RJ's with more 76 seat RJ's, what is the "Opportunity"?
I just read the WSJ article about Delta pulling down 4% more Transatlantic flying and 1% reduction in Pacific flying, and reducing employee head count.
Any early outs for Pilots in this thing?

(1) How do you force pilot out early? The last above 60 pilot I flew with, having 4.3 million in the bank and two retirement checks on hold "isn't ready." I think he likes flying. It is what he is good at (and he is a very good Captain).
(2) Isn't it sad our only "growth" is guys leaving the list? Has been this way for what, 12 years, except for a brief period at Delta pre-merger.
That will be my question to Anderson today if I find him. When will we turn this around, organically?

Hell, he can stay until he's 75 as far as I'm concerned if I could have his $$. I'm "ready" to spend his retirement. I don't think I have ever been bored on my time off.

Seems Delta is still in the 'shrink your way to profitability' mode, with an additional pull down in both atlantic and pacific wide body flying, which begs the question;
What's the Big Opportunity that drove this -hurry up and wait-, T/A?
The only opportunity I see so far, is for the company to lock in pilots to another 3 years, at bankruptcy rates, slightly adjusted for inflation, with more outsourcing of narrow body flying.

I think he's probably in the minority, though. From talking to older DL guys on my jumpseat & those whose jumpseats I've been on, it seems the majority would be happy to go if not for financial considerations. The more DL sweetens the pot, the more they'll get to go. As for the guy you flew with, probably no amount could get him to go, but that's ok. Sounds like the sort of CA I'd like to fly with when I get to DL.
