Who would of thought this thread going beyond 1 or two posts. Quite impressive.
Perhaps some have gotten the message as the experience of an individual who has been in the profession for 37 years, travelling in civvies paying hard earned dollars for a seat on a passenger jet that conveys passengers deemed to be cusomters.
This thread would never had been established if I were jump seating. Well I can't jump seat in the US as I've been an expat for over 22 years for airlines that do stress customer service and pride amongst their ranks.
I would like to beleive that the majority of those on this site also put customer service and pride first after safety of operation.

My company buys tickets to position us for our flights , a lot of tickets.
My last flight on Delta, cost 60 dollars to check bags, and they managed to damage a Luggage Works roll aboard that I checked.
Baggage service response was we don't cover that damage . Inflight service was bad even when compared with AA in their current problems.
Didn't travel in uniform so I was just another paying passenger who was treated like crap.
I didn't expect bread sticks or a drink.

No IFE on that flight so we had to keep ourselves entertained .
I found out what it was like to sit in the last row on a 737 on the bumpy trip back .

Unfortunately those who are willing to pay for service are outnumbered by those who will not.

Anyway....if you frequently buy your own tickets to get to work, you know that all domestic legacy carriers have suffered/are suffering for the similar reasons that don't plague some foreign carriers. 9/11, the US economy, deregulation, TSA, etc. For example, ask KLM, Virgin and KLM how their bottom line is working.
Finally, if you've been an expat so long, why don't you just move there? Then, you wouldn't be subjected to domestic carriers that don't offer extra breadsticks and Cognac.

As too the smashed packages you should have filed a claim for damages which would have been paid opposed to the lame excuse I got for the damage to my luggage and the refusal to pay for repairs.

If you want to ignore comments on bad customer service thats up to you but, it invites competition that you don't need.
