So I've got a question regarding minority status and what you can claim on a job application. I realize that the majors are extremely HR sensitive, and I am not just looking for an easy way in but if it can work to my benefit then why not. My father's side of the family has some Native American heritage, but I do not know how much as our family hasn't really been one to cling to traditions and pass down much info about where we came from.
Right now I don't have any proof other than physical features and what my grandparents told me when they were alive, but I have considered going through an ancestry service or searching for old family records if it would help. I am not sure how much I would need to prove, or if it is even worth the effort.
And how do they go about verifying any of this? Is it legal for them to ask?

It's debatable how much help it really is. I have not seen numbers listed for the airline industry, but I honestly haven't looked either. Anecdotal evidence doesn't count.

My wife worked in cdib for the Choctaws. Each tribe will have a department dedicated to issuing indian id cards. They will need your social security number and a birth certificate. The more family tree info u have the better. A lot of indian bloods would not put on birth certificates when a child was born to prevent any unfair treatment. They would hide it. You'll need to go back far enough in your tree where they had it on their birth certificate. Also, you'll need to know the tribe. Get the info, then start checking indian tribe web sites.

Good luck to all out there, Delta indicated that pilot hiring will continue very aggressively (after the small slowdown right now due to simulator center construction). Very happy and fortunate to join the ranks!
