Also, the grades for someone who is either retiring or separating are probably going to be "team player" grades that are given to boost the careers of those still on the "golden path", so they aren't a true reflection of performance.
Unless they are using it as an additional sanity check (did this guy lie and he wasn't really the Operations Officer or Safety Officer?), I don't see the real purpose.

Nah, if anything I think it adds weight to the point of view that mil apps are preferred to some degree precicely because of the "known quantity" concept. How many mil pilots actually get truly bad fitreps anyway. Its just a company doing its due diligence. For the civvie side theres PRIA, rehire eligibility, LOR's and signing something saying you permit them to follow up on your sick leave, etc. If civilian airlines had an equivalent to fitreps that the company could get its hands on, there is a 100% chance they would want that as well.

Not to judge, it is their game and they can make the rules: but for the most part, in the Navy anyway, Fitness Reports are sort of a joke. They all make you sound like you walk on water. There are a few key words and tricky phrases to pick out, but only someone with a deep background in Navy Air would have any idea how to infer those things from the white noise. You would have to be a real d-bag to have a Fitrep that sounds even neutral to someone who isn't in the military.

UK Fitness Reports
The British Military writes EPR's (officer fitness reports). The form used for Royal Navy and Marines fitness reports is the S206. The following are actual excerpts taken from people's "206's"....
- His men would follow him anywhere, but only out of curiosity.
- I would not breed from this Officer.
- This Officer is really not so much of a has-been, but more of a definitely won't-be.
- When she opens her mouth, it seems that this is only to change whichever foot was previously in there.
- He has carried out each and every one of his duties to his entire satisfaction.
- He would be out of his depth in a car park puddle.
- Technically sound, but socially impossible.
- This Officer reminds me very much of a gyroscope - always spinning around at a frantic pace, but not really going anywhere.
- This young lady has delusions of adequacy.
- When he joined my ship, this Officer was something of a granny; since then he has aged considerably.
- This Medical Officer has used my ship to carry his genitals from port to port, and my officers to carry him from bar to bar.
- Since my last report he has reached rock bottom, and has started to dig.
- She sets low personal standards and then consistently fails to achieve them.
- He has the wisdom of youth, and the energy of old age.
- This Officer should go far - and the sooner he starts, the better.
- In my opinion this pilot should not be authorized to fly below 250 feet.
- This man is depriving a village somewhere of an idiot.
- The only ship I would recommend this man for is citizenship.
- Works well when under constant supervision and cornered like a rat in a trap. Contributed by: Bill Cleves

Folks - apply, get the interview, do you best. Your background, unless there are issues, is of little revelance in the long run. The qualified will be hired. preiod.
Best of luck to all - new hires are needed at several airlines.
