The good news is that there is mainline service to ATL from from DAB, JAX and MLB as well as MCO. That's pretty decent service within about a 2 hour drive from DAB.

The bad news is there is a huge number of guys and gals living in FL. Florida is a bear. Some of the commutes to DTW aren't quite as bad, but there is less service.

Very interesting reading all of these options. I'm pretty torn right now trying to decide which reserve squadron to rush and where to move to after getting off active duty. At the rate the calls are going out though I'm afraid we might have to decide before I get the call from a major.

JAX and DC have been mentioned already, which are two of the Navy VR options. Anyone have any thoughts on ease of commuting out of Norfolk / Va Beach (ATL or NYC) or Pensacola (ATL)?

Another option for us is living near family in Greenville, SC. What would your thoughts be on that commute? Would it be easier to drive or fly?

Thanks as always!

Here's the tie breaker:

Florida has no state income tax.

Also TX, SD, WA, ALK, NV, and WY. NH and TEN don't tax income but do on int and dic income.

... and Florida's not a Community Property State.

Tennessee on the other hand, ....

You have to at least consider contingencies.

The easiest VR/DAL commute would be DC to NY. Does Andrews still have a C-130 Squadron? You would build seniority a lot quicker in NY and the shuttle helps on the commute.

Don't know about VA Beach/Norfolk but Pensacola can be a very tough commute.

Then again there is always VR-57 in Coronado with a drive to LAX. Could be at least a year to get to LAX though.

You can drive to ATL from Greenville. You could also live closer to CLT and drive there. Very easy commute from Clt to NYC,DTW and ATL.
