To me the real prize is the WB guys sitting right seat reserve making 160K barely flying. Talked to a guy the other day that has flown 70 something hours in the past 6 months. Not a bad gig for sitting around dropping off/picking up the kids from school every day while the wife gets her nails done. To the OP: go to the interview, see if you're a good fit. People went 5-6 years ago because it was 2008 and the recession had just started! Plenty of guys from Aloha, ATA, Skybus, went to EK. Had nothing to do with wet dreams as it did with brining in a paycheck and pay bills. 5-6 yrs ago, there were furloughs and no legacy was hiring here.

Don't know about Delta, but 5 year upgrade at AAL is beyond a ridiculous statement(unless you're talking about the 190) And while AAL has huge retirements coming up, their contract sucks(think commuter airline bad), and isn't going to get a whole lot better until 2020 if the senior folk have their way.

Well, same thing. I was a career FO at my regional with no end in sight and in 2010 I looked long and hard at EK. I even got an invitation to the one-day assessment in ATL using the DL 777 sim but then they took back the interview offer once they saw my jet time was less than 30 tons (CRJ-200). They said I could interview as soon as I got greater than 30 ton time (CRJ-7/900 Like many others, I considered it because no one else here was hiring.

AA upgrade is probably in the 8-10 yr range. W/B CA five years later?
Might stay that way for the first several years of hiring as they're hiring less guys each year now then will be retiring in 8-10 yrs.

I am sorry work rules have deteriorated to such a low at the sandpit.
Unless you are single, my first question would be:
What does the family think?
My buddies over there had encouraged me to join, but did not because the family vetoed it...
If I were over 55, I would suck it up and stay for 5 years.
Otherwise I do not see any reason to remain unhappy.
Money is not everything.
As for career progression, hard to match the 777 left seat.
Do you think you could find a US base which you could make your home as in Dubai?
