A fundamental question for non 4 year degree holders... What harm is their in obtaining a 4 year degree?
Much easier and less expensive now a days with accredited online programs recognized by the Department of Education.
One can get that degree at their own pace. Credited are given for life job/major field experience too.
That said, rather than surfing the web, use the time to study and get the degree.
After all, it couldn't hurt.

Can't be a brain surgeon without it - LoL
Dr Dr Dr Dr
UAL will wait until the LAST person on the pile who has a 4 year degree gets interviewed before changing requirements (apart from the very rare exception).
In other words - get the damn degree.

Pyro - a guy posted the UA stats. Something like 6(?) of 18xx new hires.
Most people would try to be in the 99.7% pool vs. thinking they're in the .3% pool that doesn't need a degree. That's the "very rare exception."

Congratulations on staying debt free ! Shows a lot of discipline and planning. However , you have to spend money to make money and, a $25,000 investment that doesn't depreciate is a no brainer to me personally. There is one investment that you could never get back if you lose and that is "time".
How many baskets do you want available to be able to put your eggs in?
My suggestion is, get a degree that doesn't require passing a medical to be able to hold the job. Best of luck !!! Cheers !

South Texas College is $3400 year.
The trend is moving down, not up despite what the ivy and top 10% of colleges are charging.
Having said that, HR departments across the country are ditching the 4 year question. Just gonna be a while before airline do it.

Hello all, first time poster. We all know that traditionally (the last decade or so) a bachelors degree has been a requirement to get hired by one of the majors. With the forecasted hiring wave due to retirements, what are your opinions of a guy being competitive without a bachelors degree over the next 3-5 years?
I'm currently in a bit of a pickle deciding on my next move to make myself a more desirable and qualified applicant. Unfortunately when I started flying, I had enough saved to either finish my flight ratings or go to college.
My current situation allows for one of two options. Stay debt free, keep plugging away at my regional job flying 90 hours with 12 days off in month. Volunteer my time on days off to causes that could genuinely use a helping hand; be productive and offer some real help.
Option two- take out student loans to finish an online degree in my free time. Would wind up digging myself a $25,000 hole and take about 3 years to wrap up. I'm ok with that if it would put me in a position to be hired by a company that pays better than a paycheck to paycheck lifestyle.
I talk with guys in the jumpseat that say 5 years from now, the big three will be hiring guys without a degree on a regular basis. I'm looking for your opinions because I don't want to look back and say 'I should have started the degree years ago because now I'm stuck here' or 'I should have never taken out the loans and done the degree because it wasn't even needed.'
