90%+ make it through. In the SIM, the maneuvers are taught in a fairly standard way. Flight Safety supplies some of our instructors and helped design our program.

And, the present experience is 6 months from doh to IOE - which is still too long. The folks that struggle the most have no flying skills, either in basic maneuvers or instrument maneuvers. They may have a current BFR or an IPC but it was pencil whipped.
Apologies, DonConsul . . . Calmwinds is what we refer to as a ‘know-it-all.'

All you have to do is look at the insane number of posts he produces - or, in any given number of Mesa threads, the last post is usually his.

Some people just have to get the last word in.

One thing that surprised me when I first came to Mesa was the QRH. Other regional carriers that I'm familiar with use Bombardier's QRH - which is easy to use. But Mesa took it upon themselves to rewrite the entire QRH - and given the revolving door of POI's they've had over the years, it's no surprise the POI-d'jour signed off on Mesa's version of it. So, what you're saying is at least partially accurate - if not dead-on. Mesa does have 'their way,' but as someone else posted, other regionals do as well.

At least that's been my experience, for whatever it's worth.

I would agree there is a problem with waiting. Idiotically, Mesa teaches systems and FPT and then you sit for weeks waiting on SIMs. The guys forget the flows and callouts by the time they get there. So, waiting is part of the problem.

Totally agree but what’s sad is if it’s an excuse of waiting for sims meow. I wonder what their excuse would be if they were sitting reserve and not flying after their check ride and failed a line check.

Flying long haul, you have IRP's. A new hire could come to where I work, always elect to sit IRP #2, only sit a couple of hours in cruise, and only do a landing to stay current, and learn nothing. These type of people weed themselves out, and no empathy is given. The point is, if you aren't a dumb ass, you take it upon yourself to stay current. If you don't, you don't belong in anyones cockpit.

Default CRJ Training

Anyone going through training right now able to tell me if the CRJ side in Phoenix has training bubbles in between phases? If so, how long is it taking to go from day 1 to IOE? Thanks in advance.....

The difference is these guys are coming to 121 for the first time. Some aren’t even sure why they are doing flows and callouts yet.

For many, SIMs is where they start to bring their rote knowledge from systems and FPT together into application of that knowledge. To separate systems and FPT by weeks to the SIMs is an injustice to these pilots.

We all know there are things to complain about Mesa about. To create their own QRH when the manufacture prints (that Mesa must keep theirs in sync with) also seems pretty stupid - but nothing on the scale of the current training footprint.

I was a May hire. I had 5 weeks between “FPT” and sims. Then a week between my checkride and LOFT, and another 10 days before 200 differences, and a weekend before IOE started. But, the good news is they didn’t wait to send me to IAD right after IOE. Called me on Friday night in Phoenix at 8pm, so that I could be marked notified for a 4 am reserve show in Dulles on Monday.
