Only two ways I've heard of guys getting hired as of lately.

I got a call 3 days after applying with neither.
And so did I, but that was February of 2013. Was this recent?

So it remains to be seen if the LAX routes will stay Phoenix-based or not. Financially it'd save the company money not to open a crew base, and 9 out of 10 pilots would rather hold Phoenix than LA, probably. Hope management can figure out the logistics of keeping those crews in Arizona.

Not sure about your 9 out of 10. There are quite a few CA commuters out of both PHX and ORD. Company wide you might be right, but your statement makes it sound like there wouldn't be takers for the LAX base. Not true.

You're right, let's go with most. From the pilots I've talked to, LAX is like Dulles. If you're not from there, it's expensive and you're just waiting until you can get elsewhere.

There are a lot of captains that commute out of SoCal. Plus many PHX reserves that would like to hold a line. I expect LAX would be quite senior depending on the size of the domicile.

Dj I'm not sure who you've been talking to, but I'm sure they wouldn't have issues staffing an lax base.

There's a handful of CAs & FOs who live within driving distance to LAX--I'd say at least 10-20 in each seat position would make it their #1 pref. It's very driveable from San Diego all the way up to Malibu/Topanga/Santa Barbara, so we're not just talking about people who live in LAX proper.

KW is a smart guy--I'm guessing they're going to wait until they've done a couple of months of LAX flying so they have data to assess hotel costs/MX/delays/deadheads/etc. out of PHX versus the costs of a crewroom, parking passes, etc. in LAX.

Thanks for the insight guys. I'm just happy to see more West coast flying.

LA may be expensive but at least it's close to the beach and the weather is nice year round. Dulles sucks because it is expensive and for no good reason as far as I can tell, unless there's something really cool going on that I don't know about yet.
