Most of the US population lives out east (don't ask me why) so most of the "regional" flying tends to be out that way. Living out west is hard on a regional FNG. You'll most likely end up commuting across the country at some point.

And if you're having a bad day for anything--regardless of whether it's for personal or professional reasons--call off sick, get out of your head, and get off of APC for God's sake.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just saying you seriously need to re-evaluate your chosen profession, and your personal capability to deal with unmet expectations if you ever hope to survive in this industry. Additionally, if you plan on being a Captain one day, you really need to develop a thicker skin than you're expressing right now. #realtalk
People wait years--and in some cases decades--for specific bases. Talk to anyone who has been through an economic downturn, a bankruptcy, a furlough, or even just a "legacy XYZ doesn't want you around anymore"--it happens ALL THE TIME. Mesa isn't immune to any of those things at all--I don't care what any of our contracts or recruiters say.
You need to be prepared to be a reserve FO in IAD for as long as it takes, or you need to lower your expectations, or you need to stop obsessing over stuff and go watch Netflix/drink a bottle of your chosen adult beverage, talk to a therapist, etc..
Or go talk to prior121, who will just yell a bunch of expletives at you and tell you to get yourself together and throw the gear down when he says "GEAR DOWN WHY ARE YOU TALKING BRO?"

As they say in Battlestar Galactica "All of this has happened before, all of this will happen again."

New base award announced. I'm just not getting this. 12 FO's moved to IAD, another 30 new-hires were assigned it. Coupled with 17 leaving for DFW, that's still a net gain of 25 to Dulles, which I thought was sufficiently staffed.
As for Phoenix, I thought Standing Bid indicated one permanent spot would open there. Additionally, 11 FO's left Phoenix for other domiciles. So, wouldn't they need 12 people to move there? Only one guy was assigned it... What am I missing?

Essentially, crew planning uses IAD as a kind of "holding" base for new hires until systemwide upgrades and more senior FOs bidding out of IAD create secondary vacancies in other domiciles for them to fill.
Meanwhile, people who actually want to be in Dulles rise like flotsam/debris bubbling up to the top on a stagnant, very expensive and uncommutable pond in suburban Virginia.
You'll bid out to PHX quicker than anyone has for the last 5 years--you just have to be patient and find a hobby/gf/bf/drink/side job between now and then.

Look at the bright side if you do get stuck in Dulles you'll be able to hold a line... Probably a good line far faster than any other base. And you'll be able to get to know all the new flight attendants while you sit in the crew room 12 hours at a time.

Thanks for the input, flaps. When I'm in the cockpit, the only thing on my mind is the safety of that flight. Nothing else matters. Right now though, consolidation is nearly done and I'm getting restless sitting reserve for days at a time. That's all. Thanks again for the thoughts and information.
