Wow...you guys think IAD blows now??? I remember the A gates, the dungeon. The "old" crew room by the corner Ethiopia and Pakistan. They were still constructing the B concourse. People movers everywhere, no train. Air Wisconsin ground ground handling with a ground handler nearly walking into a colgan prop every day. I remember when the Trans States pilot and the mechanic got in a fist fight at the A gates.

Actually even before that, during the ACA/Independence Air stuff when we had I think the remote "F" gates. Now THAT SUCKED!!!! Those remote gates were like a greyhound bus station in North Central Philly. Oh and back then, no KCM either so you if you timed it just right you'd be able to get behind the 19 person Saudia Crew going through the only employee lane.

Dulles isn't even that expensive, unless you're living as if you are on "single airline captain" wages and staying at hotels while on reserve. Dulles crew rates are high, ground transportation is a nightmare with the Flyer. But overall it is doable and guys b*tchin have no idea what Dulles was. Besides dulles lately has to be extremely temporary for most. Suck it up and bid out.

And one more thing, if you think I didn't come to this POS airline with my eyes wide open about where I would be based and how I would get paid and treated, you are sorely mistaken (or so it seems by your condescending tone). I'm not embracing shtt, I'm dealing with it until I get on with a major. Have fun "embracing" JOs bags of fun.

A simple math equation. End state: I want to fly for an airline and make a respectable wage to support a family. Not a whole lot of paths to get there other than the regionals and military. So until the regional model crumbles, if one wants to be a pilot at a legacy, one must have FW mil time or regional time. Or go to some of those international flying gigs...not for me I have a family I've been away from for the last several years. My total pay over the next 3-5 years, and QOL, in my best estimate, will be higher at Mesa than anywhere else (unless I decide to get a real job and quit and sit behind a desk).

To summarize: Total pay for 3-5 years (assuming CA pay at some point halfway thru that timeframe) + QOL along the way (living in base) + marketability for an actual "career" flying job = where I want to go.

You? Quick upgrade? Same reasons, same end-state, I would venture to guess. Unless someone just doesn't do any research on the industry or a particular company, I think everyone makes the best decision for him/herself for the reasons they value using similar logic...which is why I don't know why people are still going to SKW/XJT/ENY.

I should also add the training department's reputation was good (and I agree with that reputation for the most part), so that was another reason. And training was close to home.

I think it's hilarious listening to new hires complain about their line, their commute, their domicile, etc.. We're talking about people who have never (and will never) know what it does to your body/mind doing regularly-scheduled reduced-rest overnights at exactly 8 hours block-in to report time; people who will probably never do CDOs on a regular basis; people who have had KCM since the first month of their airline career...and people whose first 121 checkride/groundschool was in an AQP environment, instead of the "trial by fire" insanity of old school PCs/checkrides.

Anytime someone starts complaining, I ask them if they ever flew 121 before January of this year--if the answer is "no" I just laugh out loud and roll my eyes--they have no idea how much better QOL is at every regional now compared to the last 5-10 years.
