Ideally you're right. Sadly we don't live in a world of ideals. Majors are hiring a ton for the foreseeable future due to attrition, and new aircraft. I would argue that getting on at a major is the goal of most who apply at a regional right now. Mainline managements know this and will continue to put out bottom of the barrel CPA's for bid, playing the field if you will. With out those CPA's regionals cease to exist, and when one drops there is another one to pick up the slack (ACA and CMR come to mind, a whole bunch of regionals feasted on those carcasses). So what we're down to is this: No regional is desirable long-term whether it's pay, work rules, QOL....they ALL suck in one way or another, but they are a means to a goal. I'm all for regional pilots trying to improve things, but I'm afraid the new standard is what you see at PSA and ENY.
It sure wouldn't hurt if you and others stopped cheerleading for the bottom feeders.

2nd year CRJ900 FO making $29 an hour (waiting for dat upgrade, because if someone got an 18 month upgrade that must mean everyone forever and ever will)... and this pesky Brozillah (rip) passes by. Dirty little turtleprop driver making $37.15, while the super cool (on facebook) 76 seater guy is making peanuts paying up the yang for health insurance and no 'real' cancellation pay for a company that keeps a 200 on property to screw it's pilots out of pay. He's just weeping hoping all the cherleaders on APC are correct and that super dooper quick upgrade fairy comes to town soon.

If I made 50 or 60k I might be able to stomach the loss but at 30k, not so much. I am not even harping so much on pay rates, but add in healthcare, retirement, cancellation pay, sick/vacation time.....the list goes on. I'm glad that you can support your wife on your legacy salary, but I have a family to feed.
I can certainly appreciate the position that you are in which is the exact reason why my family made the decisions we made at the times that we made them.
Not what I said at all. In fact, the newly elected ALPA President stated in his first blast mail that regional wages, etc were a top priority. Given the fact that he was just elected and not currently seeking election, I would take him at his word, for now at least. What all that entails I haven't the slightest. I do know that regionals are struggling to fill classes which ultimately leads to product degradation, and customer dissatisfaction. UAL is already attempting to address this by reducing it's UAL footprint while increasing it's mainline presence. This creates more mainline positions, and paves the way for us to possibly help improve the outlook for regional pilots.
