If we're playing the blame game, I'd personally go for the 90's legacy pilots.

THE VERY NEXT DAY after the contract was ratified, Continental placed an order to Embraer for 274 EMB-145's.

Here were the now famous words spoken from the CAL MEC chairman after that... "Uh, we didn't think they were going to order that many."

There are SkyWest pilots boasting about rapid expansion and 3-4 year upgrades, while their kin at XJT/ASA are shrinking and stagnant.

There is blood on everyone's hands.

Why would anyone go to RAH or Mesa/Freedom at the time, with the contract that they had/have, when there were so many better options? Because they were growing and upgrading and getting the shiniest of jets. And how many of them just ended up working under a crappier contract/furloughed from Mesa/ displaced/ etc. without the quick upgrade? 1000 or more? Every one has their variation on the justification of "doing what is best for me and mine". But regardless of their own personal win or loss - every one of them contributed to the sucking sound this industry is making. And that is just one example. Those who have been around a while can recall many similar situations. GoJet? Skywest and the ace they dealt? The list goes on, most every group did something either big or small along the way, and the true repercussions may not have been felt until most of those responsible were no longer there.

Chasing new A/C and a quick upgrade negates any and all other benefits of collective bargaining and pattern bargaining. We are in a post-union situation, because pay and QOL provisions of CBAs have become irrelevant. They have been superseded by the shiny jet and upgradez. If you do not win the lottery of timing a quick upgrade you will be SOL - because of the next group that shows up with the low-ball deal. Wash, rinse, repeat. We (pilots in general) seem incapable of acting in our own self interest beyond the immediate gratification of the now. On the surface, cause and effect have been disconnected, and the strings are pulled by those who truly benefit over the long term. The enemy is us.
The shiny jet thing will only last for so long. Its just the word of the day. You have to know that it was the majors plan all along. Thats how they and any other large corporation works. Its a way of life and none of us can control it. When you have no actual power at the bargaining table then you have no place to sit there and blame other pilots for what they choose to vote on or the choice they make of where to work.

Default RP to Mesa

Thinking about going to mesa class mid March. Heres my problem: Stuck on a dying plane with RP and stuck on reserve for at least the next year commuting across the country. Live in PHX and would love to be based at home... Been with RP for about 1.5 years

What to do. What to do? Stick with Republic and wait out the switch to the 170 or go to Mesa... Take the first year hit and all that comes with a restarting a career essentially for a home base.

Positives to Mesa vs. Republic(Shuttle America)??

Also, for anybody who's looking for a cheap living situation I have a extra room available. (pilots only)

I'm hearing PHX is not that hard to hold any longer.

Your situation is pretty much me two years ago.

I switched from S5 to YV in Spring of 2013 (Fall 2011 hire) and couldn't be happier. How we are treated by CP's crew scheduling, crew pay, etc, is truly night and day (in a good way) compared to the nightmare of a place known as RAH.

I've heard from CA friends at RAH they believe upgrades will reach 10 years if they are allowed to park the 145s early, (as BB wants), and with the winding down of the Q.

I keep hearing that new hires are either not showing up to class or are leaving mid ground school, anyone else hearing this?

No. We aren't maxing class capacity and there are a few no shows, but I haven't heard of one person leaving mid ground except the groper. Why would anyone waste time going for a couple weeks to then have to explain to all future employers that you didn't complete a training event? Retarded conjecture/rumorbait at best....troll bait more likely.
