so the company knew that the pilots qualifications(medical) was expiring and the pilot had not submitted a renewed medical and allowed them to continue to fly. yeap totally the pilots fault.

Mesa flight was delayed in Montreal this morning by five hours because (they're saying) one pilot's medical expired March 31 and he wasn't legal to work the return flight this morning. They had to deadhead someone in to work the flight for him. Sucks for all involved but just curious how that happens and first responsibility is the crew member of course but the company doesn't have an alerting system on crew member certificate dates?
Maybe not five hours, but two or three is not unusual for the AA feed.

Well this was a United flight, 3781. But yes, Mesa's performance on the AA side has been abysmal.

CrewTrac alerts the company when a pilots medical is expiring, so multiple people must have ignored the message in the SOC.

Along the same lines, what's the process if a crew member gets very sick on an overnight and can't do the return flight? I imagine just wait until a reserve can be brought in on a deadhead flight? I have not seen this happen yet, but it has to happen occasionally I imagine.

If it's an FA (which it usually is)they just have you ferry it back.

If it's an out station I wonder how often they call a pilot that's off and lives there to help them out.
