New Mesa Thread

Some flipping stupid rumors I've heard in the Past... Mesa is going to acquire Envoy, Mesa is going to acquire Endeavor, Mesa is going to fly MD80's, and now Doug Parker is going to get rid of Mesa...

On the mainline side of things the Delta pilots seem to be doing okay after telling Richard to pound sand. The difference is the Delta pilots control the DL code just like United pilots control the UA code and American pilots control the AA code. YV, HK, OO all operate under a small sub-section of the AA, DL, and UA contracts. Those contracts don't stipulate who does the flying under that sub-section, rather the only stipulates that ALL flying be done by it's mainline seniority list except for the portion of flying allotted in that sub-section. There are several regionals competing for that slice of AA, DL, and UA flying. So yeah, until you fly your own code just shut up and color.

There's what we deserve and what the market says we deserve. Now, that being said, TSA Flight Attendants were offered a nickle raise during their first round of negotiations. So, you're saying that management is being generous?
If you are at the bottom of the list in terms of contracts, I believe you should absolutely do your best to argue for industry average. There isn't a mediator in this world who would look at you with stupid eyes if you just wanted to "be like everyone else." That's not being ridiculous at all.

Quote it, frame it, stick it on your fridge....I don't care. Feel free to prove me wrong though. As others have alluded to the likes of CMR, ENY, they took a stand and got dealt with. CMR doesn't even exist anymore. ENY is but a shell of itself.

There are many regional labor groups that have stood up against their management and gotten gains in contracts and still exist today. TSA once had some of the worst pay rates among 145 carriers and worked their tales off to get to be industry average. Air Wisconsin has an incredible contract and just received even more gains. The reason that ENY, CMR, and XJT struggled and continue to struggle is because their labor force became too senior. Their contract wasn't what was too expensive. It is clear by the contract PSA agreed to (a increase in pay and benefits although concessionary to ENY) that management is interested in limited the top end of the pay scale to encourage people to move on.
To say that we should all just take whatever our management gives us is an insult to the profession. That attitude is why pay to play and $16/hour wages at GLA existed in the first place. Mesa pilots have the opportunity to make their contract competitive with the rest of the industry and you are saying to just take anything? Mesa pilots shouldn't take anything that isn't close to industry average and advising them to do otherwise makes me question your existence on this board.

I support XJT and them saying no. If you think I'm going to agree on a concessionary contract to keep the UAX flying, you're crazy. The reason XJT didn't win the flying is because they couldn't bid for it at a loss like they did in their previous CPA. They also hemorrhaging in the center of their seniority list and are struggling to back fill all the loses. XJT/ASA is too expensive because they still continue to operate two separate airlines with two separate infrastructures combined with another very top heavy labor group.

Are you brand new to this game? Regionals will always exist, there will always be airline pilots on a "B" pay scale doing the same exact job, and there will always be the 1% who are the luckiest people in the industry who timed everything just right.

It's the same story regardless of the regional you work for. As others have said, nobody has actually seen this TA, however, you have to look at the position Mesa is in with other regionals. You guys compete for CPA's and the majors try to get the best deal they can get. With higher demand in air travel we're seeing less and less regional feed but you still have a ton of regional operators. You guys have little to no leverage because there are plenty of operators for those -900's and 175's. It's a shame, but it is what it is.
That's a false sense of leverage. The majors are well aware of the staffing issues at the regionals, but there is a fix. That fix will come in the form of parking 50 seaters. The 70/76 seat jets will be staffed by displaced pilots off the 50 seaters. If the regional doesn't like that plan then the airplanes are moved to another regional.
Coming from the guy sleeping (or losing sleep) on the air mattress in the corner of ops.... Any regional pilot with a desire to move on to mainline should focus on just that. The time for standing up to management and demanding contractual gains comes when you actually start flying your own code, until then you have no say.
Exactly! The chest thumpers will be the first ones crying foul as airplanes start getting transferred to Skywest, etc.

Mabe a false sense of leverage but look at republic and Skywest both are changing pay to 30 bucks an hour for first years. Better than 22. Teamsters at rjet have a lot more leverage now than they did 5 years ago when I was their. At least that's my opinion.
And yes I agree with you on focusing on that. Which i am. Just very mentally frustrating and taxing when all ur working for is a chanch at a better job. Ya I'm not the first and won't be the last just frustrated.
Hopefully I'll be out of here before it burns but if not I'll dance in the flames laughing. Then collect more money on unemployment and find a better flying job in China. I'm a ***** what can I say
