Mesa is summoning people to court for breaking the training contract. Thoughts?

..My humble advise would be not to break a signed contract..Why ?? Because it may come back to you years later..Instead, sit down and talk..

Can you clarify what you mean by "summoning to court?"

I.e.--is Mesa sending people a "summons"/letter threatening legal action and demanding payment? Or are they actually filing a complaint against you in a court of law, resulting in a notice being served to you by a process server?

Sounds like it's time to pony up a couple hundred bucks for a consultation with an attorney. If I were in your shoes, I'd definitely rather shell out for legal advice/representation than pay Mesa without questioning the legality of it first!!!

Go talk to a lawyer!!!

Off to Phoenix tomorrow to start training. Thanks to all who offered constructive comments and direction.

Also I apologize for ranting about old guys and the relevance of their past experiences earlier--from what you're saying on this thread, it sounds like it might actually be good to have you around (can't hurt to have a judge/attorney in the pilot ranks).

With that said, I hope you get involved with ALPA with that background, and I hope after you finish training you're able to delve into airline labor law/RLA issues, etc. here, because this pilot group desperately needs more people in the union who know about about stuff other than flying--esp the law.

He would be managements worst nightmare if he became our new MEC chair. He has my vote.

I broke a contract but have yet to get a letter. According to him it's a legal letter that was filed in a court and served to him. Why break a contract? Personal decisions however it wasn't like I was off IOE and bailed. I was at Mesa for 11.5 months.

Well, that contract starts when? After IOE?

Checkride date. From DOH to checkride date was about 2.5 months. I left a few weeks before my DOH.

Flaps, no worries. I was a judge, never an attorney. Yes, you can be Chief Justice of SCOTUS and not be an attorney. Our founding fathers thought the law should be straight forward enough for any educated person to understand. How far we have strayed.

Happy to be of assistance anywhere I can be. I'm looking forward to getting involved, but I need to get my sea legs first. I have a steep learning curve coming the next 2-3 months. I'm happy to chime in when I think I can offer something of value from my experiences.

Kind Regards,
Judge
