Anyone could tell you quick, or long, but the fact is no one really knows. Lots of attrition off the top now. That wasn't the case a year ago. Our upgrades due to attrition will continue to increase. We are also going to add more flying and somehow, we are filling classes. But when we don't things will change. In 12 months we could continue to run this quick upgrade machine and fill classes. Or we could not, and not be able to staff our flying, shrink, and have reverse movement. Crapshoot. People told me I missed the quick upgrade train 18 months ago. I could have upgraded in the 18 months it took to get to 1k hrs. Trying to predict the future is useless.

But the reality is TPIC isn't nearly as important as it was a while ago, people are getting hired at majors without it. Don't chase a quick upgrade. Go with QOL for you (living in base, pay, etc.). Mesa worked well for the 18 months I did it. I lived in base and family needs outweighed pay. Company was mostly good to me. It's like the current presidential race...there are no good options. Pick your poison.

It's all in the timing. There are only 5 fo on reserve in March and April but basically all 20 in the crj class are going to iad upon completion.

I'm a Sept 14 hire and I'm basically at the bottom of the IAH EJET CA list.

Upgrades come for two reasons. Growth and attrition.

We have 0 published growth on the crj.
There is some growth on the erj but we are rapidly running out of new aircraft to come on property.

Pending a new announcement of aircraft, upgrades will soon translation to attrition coverage. So any pilot just now coming onto property can expect to be an fo for awhile.

All that changes if new aircraft get announced. Also keep in mind there is a large pool of fo's who have been passed over for ca due to lack of time. They are gaining the time every day. All these captains that are upgrading at the yearish mark that are bypassing all these FOs can expect to be in reserve for a long time as all the bypassed fo's will be above them when they upgrade.

Yep, the upgrade train is over for new hires coming on property now. I will say there were some less than a year on property for the CRJ since a lot of people are holding out for the Ejet. So.... who knows... but its not worth coming here for the upgrade since there are similar upgrade times now with much better pay and bennies.
