IMO it's only for an IAD CA shortage. They could displace, but why would they do that when they can get free advertising for the quick upgrade express. If it's for 5-10 slots (says 4 rt now, but will likely be dragged out over a couple bids as well as accounting for attrition), 5-10 people may get lucky off the street. Or perhaps internally. But for the 30-50 newhires we are getting a month, it is mostly irrelevant.
That said, I think CRJ upgrades will continue to stay relatively fast because there is the least amount of movement and no one wants it. I think Ejet upgrades won't be that bad either in the future if we fill classes like we currently are. People are moving on and creating vacancies almost daily now. And new flying is still coming. Oh well, I have no skin in the game anymore. That'll probably be one of my last company emails.

Who would want to be a street CA here? 50 seat pay, endless reserve, crappy QOL. With all the other regionals hiring and most having quick upgrades, if not direct entry captain slots available, I think they will have a hard time getting people as DECs. Mesa is finally starting to feel the pinch, and I think its time we as a pilot group pinch them a little harder!

TSA might not be looking so good anymore, check out their thread. Commutair looks pretty good. The United deal might not be so easy, but for quick growth and a decent contract they are looking alright.

Where in our contract does it talk about street captains? How can the company in one mail tell the FOs on property to make sure the recommendations are within 6 months and in another talk about hiring captains from the street. How will the street captains fulfilled section 11E 5, and get recommendations if they are directly trained for that seat. Can the company call it operational necessity and disregard that part?
Or is it just a way for the company get people talking and get more people in the door and at the same time rattle some FOs into upgrade into the CRJ instead of waiting for the E-jet?
