But why ramp up for the fall? New pilots will be online for the winter months when we are not busy. New soon to be announced jet order? Do they expect attrition to increase in the fall?
This is just what I heard from one of the recruiters...they are dialing it back a bit for the summer and it will start ramping up again in the fall. Traditionally, airlines have slowed hiring in the summer as its the busiest part of the year in regards to flying the schedule.

As far as why they're doing this (if it's true) may be for a number of reasons ... all of which are anyone's guess. What I do know is that we're running a sim backlog of about 6 to 8 weeks, and have been since at least Jan. or Feb.. To make things worse, we recently lost 180 hours of sim time in MSP and also a significant amount in Copenhagen. My hunch is that the primary reason for curtailing hiring (again, hasn't been verified) is simply that they're not happy about paying newbs to sit at home or in hotels for two months. So, until those wait times shorten to a more reasonable amount it would make sense that they slow down on hiring. Unfortunately though, the industry-wide sim availability is a huge problem that's likely to remain for quite a while. Only the companies willing to pay the premiums associated with sim supply will be able to avoid growth stagnation in the interim. We'll see which side of the fence Mesa decides to be on.

The majors follow a similar hiring pattern, slowed in the summer (so more pilots can be assigned to the line) and ramped up again in the fall. So it makes sense attrition at the regionals will pick up in the fall too, necessitating more hiring at those regionals at that point.

By the way, is anyone else having trouble clicking "Last Page" for this thread? It goes to page 614, which doesn't exist yet, so you have to manually change the url's page number to 613. It's been doing this on Safari a few days for me now.
