Begin rant/
I'd say I fly with 3 types of captains: 1/3 are the type that taxi well: normal reasonable speeds at all times. 1/3 taxi like we're driving a god-damn race car.. "Tailgating" airplanes.. putting waaaaay too much power in to move 100 feet up when you're 15th in line. Coming into spot 110 and giving the pax g-forces as they turn the corner at too fast a speed. The other 1/3 taxis slllloooooooooow. So painfully slow your blood just boils. Why? Because they say they want to overblock, even if it means watching snails pass us and ground control asking "air shuttle are you ok?"
This is ENOUGH.
We are here to provide a SERVICE. That SERVICE is to transport our passengers and cargo efficiently and safely from point A to point B.
Slowing to Mach .72 is NOT cool. Especially when I have to remind you that at our current altitude, we cannot go that slow. However, pax won't notice that. But on the ground, they can and DO notice.
When I'm riding in the back and someone remarks about the captain "driving it like he stole it" - you need to SLOW DOWN.
And when you go so slowly that mainline American gets on the radio to say "Cmon air shuttle lets MOVE!" - you need to speed up!
Overblocking so you make an extra $10 is a DICK MOVE when your paying passengers now have a needlessly tight connection and the crew swap is tighter than it needs to be.
/end rant.

Going slow to overblock is shady AF. You guys have to stand up for yourselves when you see that stuff. Captain or not, we have some losers out there who prob shouldn’t be in the left seat. None of the people I hear about who do this are particularly mature. Act like an adult and they crumble. Not that difficult.

How can you complain about citing a rule of thumb for student pilots being applied to airline operations? Lots of ways, but if that excuse is enough to stop you, I’m guessing your competence level isn’t much higher than the captain’s.

But if you know better, you can let your captain know and I’m sure he will let you taxi and wear //// from the right seat.

Please enlighten us on one of “these ways” you can tell your captain to taxi at a faster rate of speed... The FAA recommends a fast walking speed for all aircraft operators, this is not specific to student pilots, and most all 121 requires a slow taxi speed using a minimum amount of braking.
But if you know better, you can let your captain know and I’m sure he will let you taxi and wear //// from the right seat.

Agreed. I find the brisk walk explanation idiotic, particularly when there are published maximum taxi speeds (in a variety of conditions) for the Ejet. Brisk walk was designed for a new pilot in a 152, not for a 121 carrier. This is what happens when we get guys who only have CFI experience prior to coming to Mesa - they operate these jets like a piston single.
