Is there still Unstacking?

Haven't been affected since the New Year on the IAH CA side. And I'm not super senior.

Look at the March bid for IAH CA. Lots of unstacking.

I don’t care what the investor call said we are short captains in all bases. The unstacking will continue.

We are at the number of captains that JO believes will result in the highest return for the investors. When the ruse of blaming broken aircraft is gone for American and it becomes more obvious many of those cancellations are due to a lack of CA’s, we will see something happen. As JO said on the conference call, the upside is better and the downside is worse based on the new American agreement.

I'm new to this world and am not familiar with "unstacking". From context, I take it that they basically cancel the line you won in the bidding process and assign whatever they need?

Not far off. Basically, they cancel your preferences beforehand and assign whatever they need.

It was intended for something like: everybody wants and bids for Christmas off. There’s a lot of flying to be done around Christmas, and obviously not everyone can have it off. More junior pilots get “unstacked” around Christmas (named for the “stack” of trips that need to be flown then, which are literally displayed on top of each other in certain programs), and the program gives those junior pilots trips during when they had asked off.

That’s fine and well, but the problem arises when an airline isn’t staffed properly. Suddenly tons of people, even the most senior pilots, are getting unstacked randomly and frequently. It’s a big hindrance to quality of life.

Another person answered your question - but I'll provide a follow-up.

PBS is one of the worst decisions - out of many inexplicable decisions - that pilot groups have made. It gives companies way too much latitude to make your schedule into whatever THEY want it to be.

Again, poor negotiating tactics and a general apathy by pilot groups industry-wide created this. Those on top of the seniority list usually do okay. Can't say the same for the rest of us.

I've bid lines and I've bid PBS. I'd take lines every day of week - hands down.

Just my opinion here
