Default Mandatory Separation Dates; Retirement Recall

nwa:

I think maybe it does allow you to exceed MSD. The AFPC website shows targeted AFSCs of Fighter Pilots, EWOs, U-2 drivers, and F-15E WSOs. They don't say anything about MSD, and I asked and they said it wasn't a limit (but I've gotten some double-speak).

To qualify, you have to be medically fit, rated appropriately, not be a leper on your OPRs or Flight Evaluations, LtCol or less, and be less than 60 years old. Once on a contract, you can serve until you are 62.

The guys who would most likely be able to apply went to UPT when the maximum age was 27 and a half. So, if they retired at 20 years, and were 27 when they went to UPT, they would be at least 47....a thirteen year window to be elibigle.

Looked at the other way, a sixty year old retired LtCol would have had to go to UPT when he was 32 in order to not exceed the 28 year MSD cutoff. Unless he was a Guard guy with a waiver, that just doesn't happen.

I'll try to get more details in three weeks when I go back and post the results here. I'm kind of leaning away due to the possibility of deployments, but it is a better pay and benefit option than the airlines.

After a little more research, it looks like you may be good to 33 years according to this...

Again, good luck.

Default RRORP to Active Duty or choose the ANG?

OK Everyone,

With all the talk here about the Air National Guard, I have a question. I'm working on getting my Retired Rated Officer Recall Program package together & submitted (shouldn't be a problem by the way) and take military leave of absence. The RRORP allows me to stay past the mandatory 24 year limit for a Major. But I also have the option of entering the ANG hopefully full-time (which includes the possibility of promotion that I can't get active duty) and I don't know how long I will be able to remain in the Guard.

I know very little about how the ANG work coming back from being retired a year. So, my question is where do I go to to find information about how the process works, how retirement changes, how long I can stay in the ANG, etc.?

Any direction would help! Feel free to PM me so we don't clog the thread.

Thanks for letting me deviate a bit on the thread & I'll keep everyone posted on my RRORP process.

Default Update on RRORP

ALCON,

Update on the RRORP process: I spoke with the O-4 at AFPC in charge of the Retired Rated Officer Recall Program yesterday to check on the status of my application. The first selection board met on 16 April. He told me my package met the board and that all 12 packages were approved. I don't know if the 12 packages were a mix of RRORP and LPRP or just RRORP packages.

He said I should be getting a "conditional offer" in the mail by late this week or early next. I asked why "conditional". He stated that some of the packages (mine included) required some kind of Pentagon Air Staff level approval for those returning to fly versus those going to Staff jobs only. He mentioned some kind of legal process hoops they had to jump through about those who are returning to fly.

So, good news but like always there is the AFPC catch of this conditional offer pending some kind of thumbs up from the Air Staff. The obvious question is why did they have a selection board, my assignment officer made a recommendation, etc, etc, if they don't yet have final approval from the Air Staff to give out these assignments!! Hopeful yet still in a holding pattern................

For those in the process: my complete package including medical was submitted exactly 3 months ago today; so don't hold your breath on the quick turn. Hopefully the process will begin to pick up speed as they work their way through this process. Good luck to all.

If not, it's probably worth a phone call down to AFPC to ask the question... Good luck

Thanks. I will have to do that as I am not retired, just got out after my commitment was up.

Default Extensions past 20 years?

I, among other folks, was required to sign a letter stating that I would retire at 20 years (May 2012) due to being passed over for Lt Col. I was speaking with a friend last night who is in the same situation. He has to retire this year on 31 May 09. He was inquiring about the program (trying to stay AD without having to try to get back in) and was told that if his retirement date were on 8 Jun 09 or later he would be able to stay until 24 years of AD service. Thus, forgoing the entire retire and get back on active duty. Has anyone else heard if the 20 yr mandatory Maj retirement is going to be eliminated? It would make sense since they are requesting retirees return to AD.

Good that they're working to fix the ironic situation of forcing guys out while bringing others back in, but the date you quote is odd. Not doubting you, just the logic of the AF. Retirements officially occur only on the 1st of any given month. I hit 20 years on 27 May, but my retirement date had to be 1 June. So why pick the 8th? Just as some random date that means "not those retiring on June 1st, but July 1st is okay?" So when does the Academy class of '89 hit 20 years - in May or June?

Anyone hear if guys returning via the permenant recall are eligible for the bonus? I know the limited recall guys are not eligible.

Nope, they are not. It's in the message. Not sure if it's in the FAQ.
