At ~$1000= 1 mo of elegibility, Higher Power Type/ATP would run about 7.3 months of elegibility. For those doing HP now on Post 9/11, does that check? Also, how does the $1500 deposit refund process work and how long does it take for GI Bill to settle up?

The FBO that I work with (lease my plane back to) says the VA is taking 45-60 days to send the VET the money. You pay up front at the FBO. Not sure how it works if you are in the university program sinse the school pays the FBO. I think then the VA pays the school directly. Not sure on that though.

I was not sure, but did learn in talking to the VA that you cannot use the benefit while on active duty. I think I plan to pay for additional ratings and save the 36 months for my son since the effective value could be much more than $10k + benefits...until congress cancels this program...

Now you don't get the housing allowance, but the benefit itself? I've been told absolutely you can use it. You have a reference for that?

From page 2 upper left here http://www.gibill.va.gov/documents/p...3_pamphlet.pdf
When Can I Receive Benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill?
Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits are payable for training pursued on or after August 1,2009. No payments can be made under this program for training pursued before that date.
Am I Eligible?*
You may be eligible if you Served at least 90 aggregate days on active duty after September 10,2001, and you are still on active duty...
I have a friend that completed his 737 type with CPT two weeks ago. As soon as he receives the reimbursement, I will post the process/paperwork he went through. Until then, be patient.

This may or may not be of interest to anyone, but I did find out that after using all of your Montgomery GI Bill (Ch. 30) before you hit 10 years from seperation from AD, you can apply for 12 more months of the Post 9/11 GI Bill (Ch.33) if you served after 9/11. In my case, I only served 13 months after 9/11 which qualifies me for 60% of the Post 9/11 GI Bill for 12 months. The VA told me this over the phone without me even asking about it which suprised me. I am using the Montgomery GI Bill (Ch.30) for flight training due to it being a better deal for me and will use all of it prior to the 10 year mark. You can convert to the Post 9/11 if you served after 9/11, you just have to figure out what gives you the most. I can tell you that they are backed up on the reimbursement for flight training under Ch. 30. I have submitted training for Aug, Sept, Oct and have not received the first dime. Just spoke with the VA on 11/17 about it and they said something about computer problems causing the delay (no suprise).
