Just got back from HPA over the weekend.
VA sends you a Certificate of Eligibility. You scan it and send it to either Carolyn or Jessica in HPA's records department.
They take care of all paperwork for you.
As soon as they get reimbursed by the VA for your training, they will cut you a check repaying your $1500 deposit.
Total Cost for an ATP/737 type: 12 days and a $700 hotel bill.
Stay thirsty my friends....

HPA (Sandy) sent me this: "In order to sign up, you would need to send a deposit of $1500 that may be paid with a check or a creditcard. Study material will be sent to you via FedEx. For the VA,fill out the 22-1990 if you have not used VA funds before or the 22-1995 if youhave. Also you could request a Letter of Eligibility."
Could you connect the dots for me please?

Actually had a fed in the box for the check but no real drama there. I guess this was "accelerated" since one of my sim instructors said there was a 14 ride course.

Any idea how much it took from your GI Bill? I've heard different things so I'm wondering what some has actually experienced. I've seen on here its $ for $ of benefits and I've heard that there is a one time up to $10,000 flight training benefit that only takes 1 month of benefits. Do you know what it took from yours?
No idea on the actual dollar computation. Didn't really care since I view it as a cost I'm going to pay for my chosen profession so I just let her rip.
Cheers

Clarification Question: HPA sent you all the forms and you filled them out and mailed them in to get the certificate?

Go to the VA website. You'll need to login to the VONS (sp?) site. Basically, under the GI Bill section, you will apply to use the benefit at your school (HPA) in this case.
The 22-1990 is most likely the one you're looking for. If you're active duty, you're in their system and it should be a slam dunk. Filled it out and applied in less than 20 mins.
It can take six weeks or so to get the certificate of eligibility in the mail. During that time, contact HPA and let them know you desired class. You will need to make a $1500 deposit to hold the class slot
After you get the certificate, you can either scan and send it in or bring the original to the fist day of class.
While the rest of your classmates are writing a very large check, you can sit there and remember that the long walk from the CHU to the Cadillac was worth it.
The billing people at HPA will reaffirm that the $1500 check you cut to hold your spot will be returned to you upon reimbursement from the VA.
QUICK NOTE: Apparently the VA has 90-120 BUSINESS days to pay up. I don't expect to see that money until late spring at the earliest.
BL: get the certificate of eligibility and they will take care of it
Cheers

Atp
I used my Post-9/11 Bill for some further schooling from 09 to 2010 (academic) and it worked out pretty well. I am now looking at trying to apply this toward an ATP. Since I'm not a heavy guy, I'm looking at an outfit in North Carolina, part 141, where they have recurrent/initial King Air training in a class C/D sim, you do the ATP on the last day. I've got a reasonable amount of C-12 time, so I figure this makes the most sense and I can take care of it in a week. This would be a great deal, knocking it out on the benefits. We'll see...

Oh I am still AD, and there was no issue with using the benefits for the previous schooling I mentioned, just a stipulation (of course) of no "books/housing benefits" I was probably one of the first AD guys to start dipping into the pot of post-9/11 pot of money since I was already in a program, digging into my own wallet at the time. I didn't use up all my 36 mos.; maybe 18, so this scheme make work out.
